Cardinal’s Opening Day Excitement Would Have Been Better With a Win

BY RANDY GARDNER
It wasn’t much of an opening day for the Cardinals in two ways. One, the team lost in the bottom of the ninth inning and two, it felt more like opening day for the Rams with the cold weather. As you looked at the stands, it seemed like the weather didn’t hold many people back though, the stands were pretty packed.

It would have been nice though for everything to fall into place and the Cards pull out a big victory. It’s almost a mental thing to win the home opener both for the fans and for the team.

It’s a long season and it doesn’t revolve around one day; we still have over 180 games left.

How many of you sat around on Monday night and watched the blasting that North Carolina put on Michigan State. I was pretty pumped up for the game but as North Carolina built up a 20-point lead, I kind of lost interest. Many people kind of felt that Michigan State might give North Carolina a run for their money but earlier in the year, they lost by 20 also. There were some huge accomplishments last night including over 72,000 people in attendance that is huge. It would be great for the final four to be here in St. Louis, just look at the huge economic boost it would give to the St. Louis are.

The women’s final four being here in St. Louis does wonders for us also but not as big as the men’s. We should be proud the area is getting such a big event anyway. Believe it or not, the hockey final four and the wrestling championships draw huge crowds also.

As you know, we are huge fans of the River City Rage Professional Indoor football team and they are doing well as they promised. The team right now is in first place with a 3-0 record after a big home opener win over this past weekend. This is the best start for the Rage in many years, and as Coach Rick Richards promises, this team will be a contender. When you look down their roster, you can only say that this team is stacked with seven players from Mizzou and most of the other players playing D-1 ball or in a professional training camp. The team goes on the road this weekend but will come back on April 18 and then will go on a six-game home streak. So if you like to be on top of the football action, this is the game for you. You will see a ton of points, usually over 100 points by each team. I know the kids love to come out and get autographs after the game because the players are so accessible. This is one of the teams main goals is to connect with the community.

On Rams news, they sign Quarterback Kyle Boller. I think this is a great move. We need a huge name behind Marc Bulger and honestly I think he will be a starter in training camp. Kyle Boller is a young guy with a big arm and has the mental capability of being a leader and that is what this team needs right now. I can’t wait to see what happens, this could be what many of the fans of St. Louis have wanted and needed. We shall see.
