The Florissant City Council passed a bill authorizing the city to spend up to $7,500 for an educational campaign concerning annexation of the Paddock Estates area.
The St. Louis County Boundary Commission approved putting the paddock Estates annexation on the April 7th ballot. The council discussed the bill at its executive session before the council meeting last week.
City Attorney John Hessel said the city can legally use public funds to educate the public on the issue, but cannot campaign for it. “You can make sure that citizens know about it,” he said.
Mayor Robert Lowery noted that the April ballot was a light election with several uncontested races. “This will let people know about it, and turn out the vote,” he said.
