10th Annual Mayors’ Shamrock Ball Marks A Decade of Local Support Coincides with Valley Industries’ 50th
This year’s Mayors Shamrock Ball not only marks the 10th diamond anniversary of the event, but also it coincides with Valley Industries Sheltered Workshop’s 50th golden anniversary. The 2017 theme is, “A Golden Opportunity for a Diamond-Studded Event.” The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 4 at Garden Villas North, 4505 Parker Road, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
All proceeds generated by this charity gala directly benefits Valley Industries which now provides meaningful and dignified employment for over 200 adults with developmental disabilities. Valley Industries first opened its doors for business on March 13, 1967, under the name of Florissant Valley Sheltered Workshop with 15 employees. Today, the workshop operates in a 60,000 square-foot production facility based in Hazelwood. It specializes in contract packaging, kit building, shrink wrapping, collating, assembly, inspections, and blister packaging. Valley Industries is both FDA certified and ISO 9001:2008 certified, committed to customer satisfaction through audited quality processes.
“Over the past decade, our Mayors’ Shamrock Ball has evolved into one of the premier formal ‘green tie’ affairs in the St. Louis area. It’s the place to be and be seen with influential business leaders and elected officials. Ticket sales are going like gang busters since no one wants to be left out going to North County’s biggest social soirée. Guests come dressed up ready to dance the night away, enjoy delicious food, as well as win fabulous raffle prizes – all for a good cause,” Matthew Zimmerman, Shamrock Ball Event Chairperson said.
The event hosts are Mayor Norman McCourt of Black Jack, Mayor Tom Schneider of Florissant, Mayor Matthew Robinson of Hazelwood, Mayor James W. Knowles, III, of Ferguson, and Mayor Robert J. Doerr of Bellefontaine Neighbors. Elected mayors from other local municipalities have also been invited to attend as well.
KSDK-TV NewsChannel 5’s chief meteorologist Craig Moeller has agreed to be the master of ceremonies. Moeller and his wife both grew up here and have large extended families living throughout the St. Louis region. After graduating from Mizzou with a degree in Atmospheric Science, Moeller went to KUTV in Salt Lake City to start his broad-casting career. He later moved to Norfolk, Va., and spent 19 years there. Now Moeller is back here in St. Louis with family and friends and he enjoys making special appearances at local charity events.
The Mayors’ Shamrock Ball offers generous sponsorship packages to local businesses, organizations and individuals. Different sponsorships are available at the following levels: Event Sponsor – $5,000; Emerald Sponsor – $2,500; Pot of Gold Sponsor – $1,000; Leprechaun Sponsor – $600; and Shamrock Sponsor – $300. The public can purchase individual tickets online for $125 each per person. There is a limit of 400 tickets available. Once they are gone, the event is sold out. Each guest will be treated to an evening of great food, open bar, attendance prizes, super raffle drawings, and lively dance music.

ELABORATE DECORATIONS/FOOD
For the seventh straight year, the Delmar Garden North Campus will host this charity event at the beautiful Garden Villas North Retirement and Assisted Living community, located at 4505 Parker Road in Black Jack. In addition to festive decorations, ice sculptures and mood lighting, elegant reception stations featuring popular restaurants and catering services will be scattered throughout the facility. These stations will be serving signature food dishes, hors d’oeuvres, pastries and desserts for most of the event.
Participating restaurants and caterers, and what they will be serving: Catering to You – Bangers & Mashers; Helfer’s Pasteries & Deli – Chicken Pot Pie & Event Cake; Krause Katering & Kakes – Reuben Bowlz & German Chocolate Cookies; Mattingly’s Bar & Grill – Corn Beef Sandwiches; Papa Murphy’s – Pizza; Pasta House – Salad; Longhorn Steakhouse – Steak Kabobs & Rice; and The Savoy Banquet Center/Paul’s Market – beef briskets.
Attendance prize baskets, prepared and donated by Karen McKay, a former Florissant Council member as well as designer and aesthetician, will be randomly given away during the event. There will be five Super Prizes raffled off to guests. The prizes include a 65” Vizio 4K Ultra HD flatscreen TV, an elegant emerald jewelry piece donated by Henefer’s Jewelers of Florissant, a Lottery Shamrock Tree containing $1,000 worth of Lottery tickets, A Summer of Golf Package, Around the Town Package and a Cardinals/Blues Package. Guests can purchase raffle tickets for $10 each or three for $25 at Valley Industries and online prior to March 4th or at the event itself
This year will make it a decade that the popular Bob Kuban Band has agreed to perform at the Mayors’ Shamrock Ball. Since blazing his way to the top of the charts with his hit song, “The Cheater”, in 1966, Kuban has been entertaining thousands of audiences with lively high-energy music that keeps the dance floor full all evening.
CROWNING OF KING AND QUEEN
Each year, Valley Industries selects both a male and female Worker of the Year from a pool of employee candidates who were monthly winners in 2016. This year’s honorees are Ricky Perron and Rosemary Barker. They will be crowned as the King and Queen of the 10th Annual Mayors’ Shamrock Ball. Their first act as royalty will be to cut the official Mayors’ Shamrock Ball cake, donated, baked and decorated by Helfer’s Pastries & Deli.
