New Residential Trash Hauling Service Will Begin March 30

Florissant will begin its new trash service with Meridian Waste Haulers on Monday. March 30. Meridian has been contracted for all waste and recycling residential service in the City of Florissant.

There is nothing that residents need to do, and they do not have to contact the hauler. The contract calls for once a week trash service, once a week recycling, and once a month bulk trash pick up (items over 60 lbs.) Residents must call in advance for bulky trash pick up so that the hauler may schedule the right equipment and manpower.

The cost per month will be $13.60 and $6.80 (seniors 60 and older). This figure is a reduction for most people.

Mayor Robert Lowery is attempting to acquire recycling bins for each home through St. Louis County and St. Louis-Jefferson Waste Management at no cost to the homeowner. He said that the city may not receive them all at once, but this will be a major priority for the city.

“I feel this program will give better service and will make recycling a priority for the vast majority,” said Lowery.

There will be no tag program with this contract. Lowery is suggesting that homeowners using tags use the ones they now have by March 30. The mayor wants everyone to understand that the program was started by St. Louis County Government, which is in charge of health matters.

Meridian will have additional staff to answer questions or address problems regarding the new program by calling 314-291-3131. The Public Works Department will also be available to help with this transition period.
