Softball Opens With Tournaments

Tournaments will open the 2016 Fall season for McCluer North Boys Soccer and Girls Softball teams.

McCluer North Boys Soccer will be in the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament to begin 2016. The Stars will play in Pool A and the first two games will take place at Fort Zumwalt East, beginning Aug. 20 with an 11 a.m. game against Fort Zumwalt West then return Aug. 23 with a 6 p.m. game against Zumwalt East. McCluer North wraps up the tournament Pool A play Aug. 24, 5 p.m. at Lutheran-St. Charles County.

McCluer North Softball opens 2016 Aug. 19 with a 4:15 game at Trinity Catholic (behind Christ, Light of the Nations) then begins the Parkway South Invitational Aug. 22 with a 6 p.m. game against Kirkwood at the Ballwin Athletic Association. Win and McCluer North plays an 8 p.m. Quarterfinal game at Ballwin A.A. while a loss sends the Stars to a Consolation First Round Game Aug. 23 at Ballwin A.A or Manchester Athletic Association. Games continue Aug. 23 at Ballwin A.A and Manchester A.A. and closes Aug. 24 at Ballwin A.A. with the championship game wrapping up the tournament at 8 p.m.

McCluer North Boys Soccer was 9-11-1 and was second in the Suburban XII Conference North Division to Hazelwood West as the Stars were 5-3. The Softball Stars won the Suburban XII North title with a 10-0 league mark and as 14-7 overall, finishing as Class Four, District Five runner up to Ritenour.

     METRO RBI SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT — Three North County high schools are involved with two of the starting with Pool Two Aug. 19 at Cool Papa Bell Field as Lutheran North plays Cleveland Naval Jr. ROTC at 4 p.m., Riverview Gardens plays Cleveland NJROTC at 5:50 and Lutheran North plays Riverview Gardens at 7:40. Pool One Starts Aug. 19 at Jim Edmonds Cardinal Care Field with McCluer South Berkeley playing Metro around 5:30 after Metro plays Bayless at 3:30 then closes Aug. 20, 8:30 a.m. when McCluer South-Berkeley playing against Bayless. Tournament continues at 10 a.m. Aug. 20 with games at Penrose Park and Cool Papa Bell Field, where the championship game will be     played at 5:50.

HAZELWOOD WEST BOYS SOCCER opens 2016 with 4:15 home games being played Aug. 29 against St. Charles High and Aug. 30 against St. Charles West. Hazelwood West is the defending Suburban XII North Champion (8-0) and was 18-7 overall last year losing the Sectional, 3-1 Nov. 3, to eventual Class Four State Champion Francis Howell.

   LUTHERAN NORTH BOYS SOCCER plays at Mary Institute-Country Day School Aug. 20, 10 a.m. in the Metro League Tournament first round. Semifinals are Aug. 23 and Finals are Aug. 27.
