‘Good Morning Greenway’ Fitness Walk on Expanded Trail, April 27

ECLT Greenway Opening Map1   Wednesday, April 27, Great Rivers Greenway will celebrate a new greenway trail during ‘Good Morning Greenway,’ a ribbon-cutting and fitness walk at the trailhead in Riverwoods Park in Bridgeton from 9 – 11 a.m. A 3.15-mile extension of the Missouri Greenway provides a new place for walking, running or riding a bike along the Missouri River. Completed last year, almost 5 miles of paved greenway loops through Riverwoods Park and parallels the Earth City Levee to Highway 370.

Riverwoods Park is on St. Charles Rock Road, about half a mile past the Earth City Expressway intersection. Visitors are invited to explore the new trail and learn more about the area’s history, wetlands, plants and animals and the benefits of exercising in natural settings.

The new extension adds 1.5 miles to the existing 1.5-mile paved greenway in the park, creating a 3-mile loop through the woods along the Missouri River. Along the Earth City Levee, it adds 1.65 miles and leads to a trailhead at Highway 370.

“Join us and our partners at the City of Bridgeton and the Earth City Levee District to celebrate this expanded greenway,” says Susan Trautman, Executive Director of Great Rivers Greenway.

Remarks from dignitaries and partners begin at 9:30 a.m., with the fitness walk starting at 10 a.m. Visitors can walk or ride their bikes; signs will highlight features along the greenway, as well as the benefits of exercising outside. Representatives of Great Rivers Greenway will distribute complementary water bottles, maps and other information about area greenways and programs. There is no cost to participate, and all ages are welcome.
