Alton UMC Church Hosts Pietown Gospel Music Festival Aug. 28-29

2-day Alton event features food, games, music, car show

The first-ever Pietown Gospel Music Festival and Car Cruise comes to Upper Alton Aug. 28 and 29. The event, sponsored by Main Street United Methodist Church in association with the Drug Free Alton Coalition, features regional and locally recognized gospel musicians at the Main Street United Methodist Church, 1400 Main St., Alton.

“We want to provide a family-oriented music festival that can bring the community together in a positive environment,” said Greg Gelzinnis, one of the festival organizers. “This is an event that allows the greater Alton faith community to work together and raise funds for the Main Street UMC’s Men’s Ministry and Honduras Mission Programs.”

The festival begins Friday, Aug. 28, at 6 p.m. with Steve Davis’ Elvis Gospel Music Review, followed by the Rivertown Sound, a St. Louis-based barbershop quartet. Barbeque pork steaks, Schwegel Family brats, grilled corn on the cob and Homemade Pietown Pies from Duke Bakery will be sold.

On Saturday, Aug. 29, a full day of gospel music and games for children begins at 11 a.m. The Second Annual Ron Dunning Memorial Car Cruise will run from 4 -9 p.m.  Highlights on Saturday include Mark Roach, Mark and Marqueta Goins, The New Jerusalem Singers, Jason McAtee’s Saving One, First Calling, Never2L8, 150 Ministries and the Pietown Gospel All Stars with the Encounter Alumni Choir and Andy Raines.

Admission to the festival is free and parking is available offsite. For more information, contact Greg Galzinnis at 618-550-9291orvisit:  www.pietowngospelmusicfest.com.
