Fireworks warning

Mayor Schneider and Chief Lowery Reminder:

Fireworks are Prohibited in City of Florissant

The Florissant Police Dept. experienced a noticeable increase in the amount and size of the pyrotechnics that individuals were using on this past 4th of July and for several days before and after which has resulted in complaints of peace disturbance.

Florissant issued a statement on the fireworks problem. “ Over 200 people go to the emergency room on or near the fourth each year. Last year, nine people died from eight different fireworks related accidents. Two NFL players lost fingers in fireworks accidents this past 4th of July. This wet summer prevented an increase in the potential of fireworks induced fires but we may not be as fortunate in the future,”

The sale, possession and use of Fireworks are prohibited by law in section 215.020 of the City Code, enacted by the City Council several decades ago. “This Administration intends to place a renewed priority on enforcement of this ordinance in an effort to prevent death, injury, fires and disturbance of the peace”, Mayor Tom Schneider said.

Florissant provides a safe, professional fireworks display each Independence Day. This year’s display after a Northwinds Band patriotic concert at the James J. Eagan Center Grounds “ was fantastic and we invite our citizens and guests to enjoy Independence Day fireworks safely next year at the Eagan Center,” the mayor said
