Alzheimer’s Association Care & Conquer Education Series Nov. 15 at Detrick Center

In honor of National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, the Alzheimer’s Association is pleased to be hosting the 4th Annual Care & Conquer Education Series in November. The series is the region’s premier education event for people affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. This educational event will provide education and the latest information on early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, as well as resources and support for caregivers.

The Care & Conquer Education Series will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Christian Hospital Detrick Center, located at 11133 Dunn Road, St. Louis, MO, 63136. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the program will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch and beverages will be provided at this event. Other events in this series will take place in St. Louis, Rolla, Cape Girardeau, St. Charles, and Fairview Heights, Ill.

This program is designed for Baby Boomers, caregivers for any stage of Alzheimer’s or anyone interested in learning about the early detection of Alzheimer’s. The education series features world-renowned researchers, a question and answer session with local dementia experts, and many opportunities to connect with others battling the Alzheimer’s epidemic.

The North St. Louis seminar will feature Ann Steffen, Ph.D., from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, who will discuss the latest research findings with particular focus on advances in early detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Carol Weir, MSW, MBA, will additionally discuss caregiver concerns, including family communications and coping with resistance, denial, and disease progression, as well as tips and resources for being a healthier caregiver.

Today, five million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. Yet, half of those affected individuals never receive a formal diagnosis. With Alzheimer’s projected to rise exponentially in the years to come, raising awareness and educating community members is important in order to ensure proper care for people living with the disease and their caregivers.

Registration is required for each seminar, and a $10 per person donation is requested upon registration. Preregistration can be completed online at www.alz.org/stl or by calling 800.272.3900.
