Little Creek Nature Area Previews 2018 50th Anniversary Celebration

apple churning   Ferguson Florissant School District’s Little Creek Nature Area kicked off its year-round 2018 50th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, Oct. 28 at its annual homecoming at 2295 Dunn Rd. The 50th anniversary date has been set for Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018.

Guided tours of the preserve’s handicapped-accessible trails, nature-based arts and crafts, a puppet show, and a scavenger hunt were some of the activities featured that morning. There was also a Birds of Prey show by Treehouse Wildlife Rescue and Strings Attached provided live music. Visitors could also go on a hayride through the prairie loop to watch apple-pressing and cider-making and sample the cider.

apple cooking    Since 1968, Little Creek Nature Area has been an outdoor classroom for students and teachers and a place of solace and discovery for nature lovers. It is operated by the Ferguson-Florissant School District.

Points of interest on the property are a log cabin, barn, a variety of gardens, an apiary, pastures, orchard, trails, Discovery Pond, caretaker’s workshop, Brown Nature viewing habitat, classroom, several bridge and a learning lab. Admission is free.

Little Creek is open to public Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Phone (314) 831-7386. The large area is bounded by Dunn Road, Summerwood Condos, Christian College, Dunegant Park and Afshari Estates and Singing Pines.
