Five McCluer South, McCluer North Students Compete in National DECA Competition

Five students from McCluer South-Berkeley High School and McCluer North High School in the Ferguson-Florissant School District advanced to national competition in business and entrepreneurship at the 68th annual DECA International Career Development Conference held May 3-6, 2014 in Atlanta.

McCluer South-Berkeley High School students Andre Crump, Jordan Harden and Savoy Smith and McCluer North High School students Timothy Sutton and Jeremy Jordan represented their respective schools as well as the Ferguson-Florissant School District at the prestigious event.

During the school year, approximately 120,000 of DECA’s 200,000 student members take part in the organization’s competitive events program, enabling them to compete for local and regional titles.  The competitions are designed to simulate real-life business scenarios and to test students’ academic understanding and skills development.

Crump, Harden and Smith won their District competition and placed among the top four in the entire state of Missouri to qualify for the national competition.  Jordan and Sutton placed second in their District competition and second in Missouri to qualify.

DECA (formerly Distributive Education Clubs of America) is part of the marketing curriculum in the Ferguson-Florissant School District.  The annual competition allows students to demonstrate what they have learned in their marketing and business classes.
