Hazelwood School District Students, Teacher, Named NCCU Oratory Finalists

Three Hazelwood School District (HSD) students and a staff member are four of 13 finalists selected in the 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratory Contest sponsored by North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony and Justice (NCCU).

The three HSD students are:

  • Makaila Davis, Lawson Elementary School
  • Emma Lewis, Hazelwood North Middle School,
  • Jordon M. Ryan, Hazelwood North Middle School
  • Tracy Hinds, instructional specialist at Twillman Elementary, was selected as a finalist in the Adult category.The finalists will present their oratories before a panel of judges beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, at John Knox Presbyterian Church.

Five winners will be chosen from among the 13 finalists by a panel of judges. Each of the winners will receive a $100 prize. The five winners will present their oratories at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Celebration at 3 p.m. in the Terry M. Fischer Theatre at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley on Jan. 18. The public may attend.
