Last week Hazelwood West and Hazelwood Central was mentioned as likely top two seeds in Class Five, District Six Baseball but when the article hit the streets the seeds and pairings were announced and Hazelwood Central is not among the top two.
Hazelwood West, who will be hosting Class Five, District Six, will be the top seed. McCluer North is the second seed. Both teams get a first round bye. Hazelwood Central is the number three seed.
The tourney begins Saturday, May 17 at 11:a.m., when fourth-seeded McCluer takes on fifth-seeded Hazelwood East with the winner advancing to play May 19, 3 p.m. against Hazelwood West. Following the McCluer-Hazelwood East game on May 17 Hazelwood Central meets sixth-seeded Riverview Gardens at 2 p.m. with the winner facing McCluer North, May 19 at 5:30.
May 19 winners will advance to the district championship game May 21, 4:15. The Class Five, District Six winner hosts the Class Five, District Five winner, May 27 in the sectional for the right to play in the May 29 quarterfinals. Ritenour hosts Class Five, District Five with Chaminade, St. Louis University High, Gateway STEM, Ladue-Horton Watkins and Webster Groves competing.
As of May 11 Hazelwood West, 15-8 overall, is second to Pattonville (12-0 SNC, 17-1) in the Suburban North Conference as the Wildcats were 9-3. McCluer North (11-10) is third in the Suburban North (8-4) and Hazelwood Central (10-8) is fourth (7-4). Against Class Five, District Six Hazelwood West is 7-1 prior to games against McCluer and Hazelwood Central, McCluer North is 7-2 prior to playing against Hazelwood East and Hazelwood Central is 6-2 prior to playing Hazelwood West and nor including a second game against Riverview Gardens.
CLASS FOUR, DISTRICT SEVEN AT WINFIELD — North Technical, in their inaugural season as a sport, will open May 17, 10 a.m. as a number seven seed against second-seeded Warrenton followed at 12:30 with second seeded St. Dominic against sixth-seeded Winfield and those two winners meet May 19 at 7 p.m. St. Charles West is the top seed and will play May 19 at 4:30 against the winner of the May 17, 3 p.m. game between fourth-seeded St. Charles High and fifth-seeded Duchesne. The Championship game is May 20 at 5 p.m. with the winner playing in the May 27 sectional at the winner of Class Four, District Eight for the right to playing in the May 29 quarterfinal.
CLASS THREE, DISTRICT FIVE AT LUTHERAN NORTH — The tournament begins May 17 when fourth-seeded Metro takes on fifth-seeded Cardinal Ritter at 10 a.m. (the same time the Girls Soccer Class One District Five Tournament is being played) while at 12:30 third-seeded Trinity Catholic meets sixth-seeded Northwest Academy of Law. On May 19, competing against two Girls District Soccer games, second-seeded Lutheran North takes on Trinity or Northwest Academy at 4:15 while at the same time top-seeded Orchard Farm hosts Metro or Cardinal Ritter. On May 20, competing along with a Girls District Soccer final, the Baseball District final will be played at 4:15, the winner playing at the Class Three, District Six winner in the May 26 Sectional for the right to play in the May 28 Quarterfinal.
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS AT T.R. HUGHES BALLPARK, O’FALLON — This will be a six-day tournament with Class Two opening Jane 2-3, Class Three plays June 3-4, Class One plays June 4-5, Class Five plays June 5-6 and Class Four plays June 6-7. In each class the semifinals are at 4 p.m. and 6:30 the first day while on the next day the third place game is at 10:30 a.m. and the first-place game is at 1 p.m.
