McCluer, a Class Four High School and Lutheran High School North, a Class Three High School, will each host a District Three Track And Field Meet, based on enrollment class, May 17, and the road to the state championships will then have to go through Troy-Buchanan High School as they will host two Sectional Two meets, May 24.
The State Track And Field Championships will be held May 30-31 at Lincoln University’ in Jefferson City.
Coaches meetings will precede District competition May 17 at 10 a.m., most of the field events start at 11 a.m. and running events begin with preliminaries at 11:30 a.m. Sectionals, held on May 24 begin with half of the field events at 11 a.m. and running events will then start at 12 noon with Class Four running before Class Three. State competition, May 30-31, will begin with field events at 11 a.m. each day while running events begin at 12 noon each day with Class Four running before Class Three.
There are 18 events each for both boys and girls. The top four finishers from each district event advance to sectionals while the top four finishers from each sectional advance to state. The top eight state finishers for each boys and girls event will receive state medals with the relay champions taking home plaques.
Qualifying for each district event are based on standards, boys are faster, longer and higher than girls, Class Four standards are faster, longer and higher than Class Three. Sectionals in each class pit qualifiers from District Three against qualifiers from District Four.
Competing at McCluer in Class Four, District Three includes defending Class Four State Boys and Girls Champion Hazelwood Central (a four-peat boys’ champion), Hazelwood East, Hazelwood West, McCluer North, Pattonville, Ritenour, Riverview Gardens, Chaminade College Prep, DeSmet Jesuit, Gateway STEM, Incarnate Word Academy, Parkway North, Rosati-Kain and St. Louis University High.
Class Four, District Three will compete against Class Four, District Four in Sectional Two. Coming from District Four includes host Parkway Central and competitors Francis Howell High, Francis Howell Central, Francis Howell North, Fort Zumwalt East, Fort Zumwalt North, Fort Zumwalt South, Fort Zumwalt West, Wentzville-Holt, Wentzville-Timberland, Hannibal and host Troy-Buchanan.
Competing at Lutheran North in Class Three, District 3 include North Technical, Trinity Catholic, McCluer South-Berkeley, Jennings, Normandy, Cardinal Ritter, Duchesne, Northwest Academy of Law, Miller Career Academy, Orchard Farm, Soldan International Studies, St. Charles High, St. Charles West, Sumner and Vashon.
Class Three, District Three will compete against Class Three, District Four in Sectional Two. Mexico High hosts District Four and competed against O’Fallon Christian, St. Dominic, Warrenton, Winfield, Wright City, Booneville, Bowling Green, Centralia, Fulton, Hallsville, Kirksville, Macon, Marshall, Missouri Military Academy, Moberly and North Callaway.
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS — Incarnate Word Academy finished third in the Metro Women’s Athletic Association Championships held April 26 at St. John Vianney, behind winner Cor Jesu and runner up Nerinx Hall. IWA won the 4×200-Meter Relay, Genel Rollins won three sprint events — 100, 200 and 400 Meters — and Jade Gates won the shot put.
Lutheran North competed in the Metro League Championships April 25 at Lutheran South but no team scores were reported. Lutheran North had only boys’ event winners as Lutheran North won the 4×200-Meter Relay, DeMarcus Dotson won the 110-Meter High Hurdles and Robert Brown won the Shot Put.
Pattonville hosts the Suburban North Conference championships, May 8, 3 p.m. at Pattonville Stadium. Defending conference champions Hazelwood Central will compete against the host school along with Hazelwood East, Hazelwood West, McCluer North, McCluer, Ritenour and Riverview.
Trinity Catholic competed May 6 in the Archdiocesan Athletic Association Championships at St. Francis Borgia, Washington, Mo. McCluer South Berkeley hosted the Suburban East Conference Championships.
