Girls Golf had only one Suburban North Conference School, Pattonville High.
This year the Suburban North will have at least five schools competing in the sport. Joining Pattonville for the fall 2008 season will be all three high schools from the Hazelwood School District — Central, East and West — as well as McCluer North.
The season starts Aug. 25 and home golf courses for the Suburban North Schools include Eagle Springs, Old Florissant and Berry Hill. Eagle Springs will host the Suburban North Tournament on Oct. 1 and Districts will follow at date(s) and site(s) to be announced, possibly at Crystal Springs. State competition, in Class Two will be Oct. 20-21 in Bolivar, Mo.
For years the now defunct St. Thomas Aquinas-Mercy had girls golf, then Incarnate Word Academy and Pattonville added the sport. When Aquinas-Mercy merged with Rosary to form Trinity Catholic girls golf was added early but as of now Trinity does not field a girls’ golf team but at least two girls competed last spring on the boys’ team. All five Suburban North teams will play against IWA at Normandie; except for Pattonville, which will meet along with Fort Zumwalt South at The Falls.
SOFTBALL — The 2008 fall season opens Aug. 25 and that includes the Parkway Tournament, Aug. 25-28 and the Rockwood Summit Tournament, Aug. 25-29. On the weekend of Sept. 11-13 there will be a NORCO Tournament at ABC Park, St. Ann, and IWA will host a slugfest.
The State tournament is scheduled for Oct. 24-25, site to be announced. The Missouri State High School Activities Association is looking at proposals for the host site(s) the next four years Since 1996 the MSHSAA Softball championships were held in Columbia and prior to that the Class 4A championships were held at times in Fenton or Valley Park and in 1994-95 the 4A championships were held at Fountain Lake Complex, Bellefontaine Neighbors.
GIRLS TENNIS — The 2008 season is scheduled to begin Aug. 25 and continue until districts begin in early October. Suburban North Conference schools will have their league tournament Sept. 19-20 at Riverview Gardens High School, which has about 10 tennis courts. The State championships are likely to be held in Springfield, Mo., Oct. 23 (team), and Oct 24-25 (singles, doubles).
CROSS COUNTRY — There is a Watermelon run scheduled for Aug 23 at McNair Park, St. Charles, site of the First Capitol Invitational, Sept. 5. The Hazelwood Central-Paul Enke Invitational is scheduled for Sept. 20 at Sioux Passage Park and the Hazelwood West Invitational is scheduled for Sept. 26 at Koch Park. The Suburban North Conference Meet is Oct. 18, Districts are Oct. 25, Sectionals are Nov. 1 and the MSHSAA meet, likely to be in Jefferson City, is Nov. 8.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL — The MSHSAA State Championships are moving to Kansas City and will be held at Municipal Auditorium, Nov. 7-8. In 1988-2007 the MSHSAA championships were held at the University of Central Missouri (formerly Central Missouri State University), Warrensburg. Incarnate Word Academy took fourth in Class Four State last year.
There will be a Hazelwood Volleyfest, Oct. 10-11 but it is unclear where it will be held. McCluer High has it scheduled to be held at Hazelwood Central while Hazelwood West has it scheduled to be at West.
BOYS SWIMMING — The 2008 season opens Sept. 1 with the McCluer North Relays scheduled to take place Sept. 5 at the Eagan Civic Center.
