Five Hazelwood School District elementary schools have received national recognition from the prestigious Pearson School Achievement Services organization.

Barrington Elementary, Cold Water Elementary, Garrett Elementary, McCurdy Elementary, and Walker Elementary schools were presented the Pearson Insight (formerly known as the National Model School Program) awards on Tuesday, March 18.

Jacob Bruno of the Insight Assessment Training Institute commended the schools and their staffs for helping students become more active participants in their studies.

“Your schools are working with teachers to help students to set goals and own their learning experiences,” said Dr. Diana Bourisaw, chief academic officer, Pearson Assessment Training Institute, in a student interview for Garrett Elementary. “Parents should be extremely proud of these students and their schools.”

Each of the presentations to the schools was unique. For example, McCurdy Elementary had a question/answer session with the school’s Student Council and the Pearson representatives; and Garrett Elementary students interviewed the Insight team for their morning broadcast.

“Congratulations to the Hazelwood School District and your staff on this tremendous accomplishment,” said Dr. Bourisaw. “We are honored to work with such a team of dedicated educators.”

During the ceremony Pearson presented a banner and plaque to each school and District leaders. Pearson also recognized the schools at the March 18 District Board of Education meeting. Each school will also be featured on Pearson’s website. Lastly, Pearson will provide advice, support, and professional development for continuous improvement efforts for each school.
