High Schools That Work Honors 18 Seniors

Seniors from Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East and Hazelwood West high schools qualified for the 2008 High Schools That Work Award of Educational Achievement from the Southern Regional Education Board.

High Schools That Work (HSTW) is an effort-based school improvement initiative founded in 1987. HSTW is the nation’s first large-scale effort to engage state, district and school leaders in partnerships with teachers, students, parents and the community to raise student achievement in high school and the middle grades.

To be considered for the award, students had to complete a college preparatory course of study in two of three subject areas (English, mathematics and science) and a career/technical, math/science or humanities concentration, as well as meet performance goals on the HSTW Assessment. More than 3,000 seniors in Missouri took the assessment and of that, 259 qualified for the achievement award, a prestigious honor.

Student achievers from Hazelwood Central are: Shawn Bodden, Brittni Brown, Katharine Finley, Marcus Hughes, Taylor Schulte and Kevin Weber.

The honoree from Hazelwood East High is Cydnie Deed.

From Hazelwood West High are Joel Arrington, Mark Conway, Andrew During, David Greenberg, Asha Hall, Ryan Kertz, Brian Meyerhoff, Devon Mueller, Courtney Oliver, Sheila Paytocan and Danielle Peltonen.
