Florissant Starts Program to Help Police Find Missing Individuals

Florissant Police Chief Timothy J. Lowery announced that the Florissant Police Department has partnered with Project Lifesaver to be the first law enforcement agency in eastern Missouri to have the ability to track residents when they go missing. The Florissant Police Department received necessary equipment and training with a grant through Project Lifesaver.

Project Lifesaver is an agency that provides the necessary training and equipment to law enforcement agencies to track and locate persons who are enrolled in the program with Alzheimer’s, Autism, Down syndrome, Dementia, or other cognitive conditions. The individuals wear a small transmitter around their wrist or ankle. If they wander or get lost, law enforcement can quickly recover the lost individual. This can reduce the number of staff hours required to find the person, and ensure the person is brought home safely and quickly.

Interested individuals can contact Project Lifesaver directly at 757-546-5502 or go to their website at  www.projectlifesaver.org/ to enroll in the program. The cost to enroll is $95 for the transmitter and related equipment and a $25 monthly fee.

If the enrolled individual goes missing, the caregiver must immediately notify the Florissant Police Department so a search can begin.

Lowery encourages anyone with a family member who lives in the City of Florissant and has a tendency to wander from home to consider this potential life-saving program.

“It is my priority to ensure that caregivers in the City of Florissant have the peace of mind that the Florissant Police Department and Project Lifesaver now offer,” Lowery said.
