Hazelwood East Boys Win District 4 Boys Track; Sectionals May 17

Hazelwood East High School took first place last Saturday in Class Four, District Four Boys Track & Field at McCluer North High School.

East scored 120 points and was five better than the 115 scored by Hazelwood Central. Parkway North was third with 102 followed by McCluer with 90.5, Normandy (58), McCluer North (52), Pattonville (43), Hazelwood West (38.5), Ritenour (34), DeSmet (33) and Riverview Gardens (15).

Hazelwood East will compete this Saturday in Class Four, Sectional Two, at McCluer North in 12 events. That includes all four relay events of which East won the 4xs100, 4×400 and 4×800.

Hazelwood Central will compete this Saturday at McCluer North in 10 boys’ events including all four relays. Central won the 4×200 relay, Garren Hendricks won the 100 and 200-meter dashes, Chris Carnes won the Long Jump and Brian Taylor won the 400-Meter Dash.

McCluer will return to McCluer North to compete in seven events with Robert Higgins coming off district title wins in the Shot Put and Discus. McCluer North will compete at home in six events including the 110-Meter High Hurdles won last Saturday by Ralph Watson.

All participating schools qualify to compete in at least one event this Saturday against the top four finishers from District Three. Other winners in District Four include three event winner Darwin Price, Normandy (800, 1,600 and 3,200 Meters), two-event winners Jeremy Bankston, Parkway North (330-Meter Intermediate Hurdles and Triple Jump), Freddy Moore, Pattonville, High Jump, and Ryan Rethy, DeSmet, Pole Vault.

IN GIRLS CLASS FOUR, DISTRICT FOUR Parkway North won the district title by scoring 117.5 points, led by Michelle Gronemeyer, who won at 1,600 and 3,200 Meters. McCluer North was second with 105 points followed by Hazelwood West (91), Hazelwood Central (83), Hazelwood East (70), Normandy (64), Pattonville (61), McCluer (50), Incarnate Word Academy (37) and Riverview Gardens (23.5). Every school that competed last Saturday will compete in at least one Sectional Two event this Saturday at McCluer North, except Ritenour.

McCluer North will compete at home in 11 Girls Sectional events this Saturday. Last Saturday North won the 4×400-Meter Relay, Kendra White won the 400-Meter Dash, and Bianca Lockette won the Shot Put.

Hazelwood West will compete in six Girls Sectional events this Saturday and that includes the district-winning 4×800-Meter Relay and the High Jump won by Emily Daniels. Hazelwood Central, who will be competing in seven Girls Sectional events this Saturday, had a winner last Saturday as Jelani Kelly won the Discus.

Hazelwood East, who had winners last Saturday from Jantelle McNeil (Triple Jump, 100-Meter Intermediate Hurdles) and Tierra Jones (300-Meter Low Hurdles), will
compete in six events this Saturday.

McCluer, who will compete this Saturday in five girls’ events, got a win last Saturday from Emequa Owens in the Long Jump. Normandy, who won the 4×100 and 4×200 Relays, got two wins from Eileen Williams (100 and 200-Meter Dashes) while Pattonville got wins from Mandie Leung, Pole Vault, and Sharoyah Davis, 800 Meters.

CLASS THREE — McCluer South-Berkeley, who won the District Three Girls title and was second to University City in District Three Boys last Saturday at Mary Institute-Country Day School, will compete in 11 Girls and 10 Boys events this Saturday in Mexico, Mo. Also going to Mexico, Mo., to compete in Sectional Two will be Lutheran North, who will compete in eight boys and three girls’ events. Trinity Catholic was shut out from qualifying for Sectional Two.

McCluer South-Berkeley scored 134.5 points in Girls Track & Field and won the District Three title by one and one-half points over Suburban East Conference rival Ladue MS-Berkeley Boys, with 92.5 points, was 34 points behind 17-time outdoor state champion University City.

Winners from McCluer South-Berkeley last Saturday include Alishea Usery (100, 200 and 400 Meter Dashes), Pharez Hill (Boys Long Jump, Triple Jump), Johnathon Barnett (800 Meters), Boys 4×800 Relay and Girls 4×400 Relay. Lutheran North had Boys events winners last Saturday from Tyler Shaw (110 High Hurdles and 300 Intermediate Hurdles) Steven Liggins (1,600 Meters) and the Boys 4×200 Relay

CLASS TWO — North County Tech will compete in six Boys and seven Girls events this Friday-Saturday in the Class Two State Championships at Lincoln University’s Dwight T, Reed Stadium in Jefferson City. Winners from last Saturday’s Sectional One meet at The Principia include Sandra Ewing, Girls 800-Meter Run, Brittney Turner, Girls Triple Jump, Boys 4×100-Meter Relay and Girls 4×200-Meter Relay.
