In the Sept. 21 edition of   The Independent News, the Sports Headline mentioned that Trinity Catholic High and Lutheran High North are on a Friday, Nov. 3 Football “Collision Course.”

Well, it is here. Friday, 7 p.m. at Bill Lamothe Football Field Top-seeded and Metro League Champion Lutheran North hosts second seeded and Archdiocesan Athletic Association Small Division Champion Trinity Catholic.

It is for the Class Two, District Two title and the winner will play Nov. 11 against the District One Champion, Caruthersville or Malden. A Trinity win means the Titans be at home against the District One winner while Lutheran North, with a win, plays on the road.

Lutheran North (10-0) ranked third in the Missouri Class Two State rankings is the higher seed than second-ranked Trinity (9-0) because of strength of schedule. This match-up is similar to the 1989 Class 5A round-robin district final week between two top three schools. Back then eventual State Champion Hazelwood East defeated 1988 runner up McCluer North in a battle of 9-0 teams.

Playing for the first time since Oct. 6 Trinity defeated AAA Small rival Cardinal Ritter 28-7 on Oct. 27 at home. Scoring the fewest on-field points this season, the Titans scored the last 20 points after Ritter trimmed the lead to 8-7. Isaiah Williams threw two touchdown passes to Marcus Washington to lead the Titans.

Lutheran North won their third straight on-field shutout with a 55-0 hone win over Carnahan. The Crusaders scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters and 13 in the fourth. Donovan Marshall ran for three touchdowns while Isaac Glenn had two.

HAZELWOOD CENTRAL at CBC — Friday, 7 p.m. at CBC Stadium the top-seeded and Metro Catholic Conference champion Cadets take on the second-seeded and Suburban XII Conference North Division champion Hawks for the fifth straight year in the Class Six, District Two final. The winner takes on the winner of the District One battle of the Suburban West Conference American Division teams — Eureka or Lindbergh on Nov. 11. A Hazelwood Central win means the Hawks hosts Eureka or travels to Lindbergh while a CBC win means the Cadets next game is on the road.

CBC has defeated Hazelwood Central the last three district finals including a 47-40 double overtime game at Central last year. CBC won Oct. 27 over visiting Rockwood-Marquette 49-0 as the Cadets scored 35 first half point. Bryan Bradford ran for three touchdowns to lead the Cadets.

Hazelwood Central, which last defeated CBC in 2013-the last year of the old Suburban North Conference, won 27-12 Oct 28 over former Suburban North rival Ritenour at home. Raphael Bell scored two Hawk touchdowns while John Harrison Jr. threw two touchdown passes.

HAZELWOOD EAST at PATTONVILLE — Friday, 7 p.m. at Pattonville Stadium the top-seeded and newly crowned Suburban XII Conference South Division Pirates host the third-seeded Spartans in a battle of former Suburban North rivals. The winner of this Class Five, District Two final meets the winner of District One, defending state champion St. John Vianney or Jackson on Nov. 11. A Hazelwood East win means the Spartans host Vianney or travel to Jackson while a Pattonville win puts the Pirates on the road.

Mekhi Hagens threw five touchdown passes to Dijion Walls, the fifth with 1:52 left in the game, gave the 7-3 Spartans a 36-27 upset Oct. 27 at second-seeded Chaminade, avenging the last two years losses by East to the Red Devils. Pattonville (6-3) won at home that same night 36-14 over Suburban XII South rival Webster Groves as Sam Sanderson and David Ellison Jr. each scored two Pirate touchdowns.
