Jim Fischer and Judge Tim Kelly Added to ‘Walk Through History’
A plaque dedication for the late James E. Fischer is set for Tuesday, Sept. 10th at noon at the corner of rue St. Francois and rue St. Jean. The city of Florissant, along with VFW Post 4105 and the Florissant Rotary Club, will host the dedication.
James Fischer co-owned Fischer’s Department Store with his brother Al. Fischer’s is the oldest business in Florissant and is still in operation. Fischer served as flight engineer on a B-17 crew during World War II. He was a Charter member and past President of the Florissant Rotary Club, as well as serving as the Rotary District Governor. He was active on many Boards and had a strong passion for the business community in Florissant and the people that lived here.
The plaque will be the 15th Walk Through History plaque. Each is dedication to someone that has made a valuable contribution to the City of Florissant.
The 14th plaque will be dedicated this week to the late Judge Timothy W. Kelly, Sr. The city will host the plaque dedication for Kelly on Wednesday, Aug. 28, before the start of the Wednesday Night Out activities near Bunker’s and Stems Florist.
Judge Timothy W. Kelly, Sr. was the second son of the late Florissant Judge John J. Kelly. Tim Kelly grew up in Florissant attending Our Lady of Fatima and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. As the Municipal Judge for the City of Florissant for thirty-two years he presided over a firm but fair court and was elected eleven times. He inspired troubled young adults to strive to be good citizens and promoted leadership through athletics. He also served as a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy JAG Corps Reserve.
