Florissant Council Honors Police Officers, 1 Citizen

The Florissant City Council honored several police officers and one private citizen at the council meeting this week.
Christine Moore is a resident who provided CPR to a victim until Officer Steven Johnson arrived. The two of them were honored for saving the victim’s life. Sgt. Kevin Boschert and Officer Steven Beekman were honored for their work stopping a suspicious vehicle which was found to have stolen goods inside. Officer Joshua Smith was honored for his work in apprehending a burglary suspect.
Sgt. Michael Mahaffy responded to a call about a child caught in a seatbelt and choking. After determining that the latch was broken, Mahaffy used his pocketknife to cut the belt and began first aid on the child.
Office Jason West, Officer Grant West and Officer Brian Law responded to a burglary call and were able to apprehend three suspects, who later confessed. Officer Alexander Nilson and Officer Gary Niemann chased down a suspicious person who was found to have stolen property. The criminal was arrested and the property, including four catalytic convertors stolen from parked cars, was recovered.
Officer Chris Bockelmann, Officer Andrew Gerwitz, and Officer Shannon Bowen responded to a call about a possible drug deal in progress. After a pursuit on foot, the officers were able to take custody of both people involved in the drug deal.
The council honors police officers for excellent performance once per quarter at the council meeting.
In other matters, the council passed bills authorizing three new businesses in the city. Gateway Grilled Subs will be located at 1156 Shackelford and Sub King will be at 129 Graham Road. National Rent to Own is moving from Hazelwood to 1785 N. Hwy 67. This is currently the Metro Lighting store near the intersection of Lindbergh and New Florissant.
The council also passed a resolution honoring Ward 4 Councilman Keith English, who was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in November. This was his last meeting as a councilman. The council also passed a bill authorizing a special election on April 2 to fill the Ward 4 seat.
