Since 1976 Incarnate Word Academy has taken home 24 Missouri State High School Activities Association championships in three sports but in recent years Girls Basketball has been the most successful of all the sports teams.

Last Winter Girls Basketball, after moving from Class Five to Class Four, had their most dominant season in team history and their fifth title overall was the team’s first undefeated season. IWA was 31-0, wining 27 games by 20 points or more and only the season opener over Hoover, Ala., was by single digits (three points).  Of the 11 Girls Volleyball titles only one was undefeated in matches but two matches ended up in split two games (38-0-2 in 2004 Class Four). None of the nine Girls Soccer championship seasons were undefeated but the closest came in 1993 (19-1).

Girls Basketball was the only sport IWA was able to take home a state trophy in 2012-2013. Girls Volleyball and Girls Soccer were eliminated in the Quarterfinals and Girls Soccer, who moved from Class Three to Class Two, was eliminated by eventual State Champion St. Dominic. Girls Tennis was eliminated in the Sectional Semifinals while Girls Softball lost in the first round of districts.

LUTHERAN NORTH BOYS BASKETBALL TAKES THIRD PLACE — Despite a change of head coaches Lutheran North took home their second straight third place finish in Class Three and Anthony Hall succeeded Brent Rueter after Rueter became head coach at McCluer High School. Lutheran North lost in the Semifinals to eventual Class Three State Champion College Prep at Madison, a St. Louis Public School that had players and head coach Tony Irons from the now defunct Imagine College Prep Charter School. Irons played on Lutheran North’s 2002 Class 3A championship team and it was Lutheran North’s seventh state trophy in Boys Basketball since 1980 including two state championship teams (2002, 2005).

Lutheran North Girls Soccer was a Class One Sectional Qualifier before losing to eventual state champion Duchesne while Baseball was a Class Three Quarterfinalist in the last game for retiring head coach/athletic director Mike Russell.

NORTH TECHNICAL GIRLS BASKETBALL TAKES FOURTH PLACE — For the second time in school history North Tech took home a state trophy and Girls Basketball was able to finish fourth in Class Three. In 2008 North Tech took second in Class Two Girls Track and Field. Four of the last five Girls Basketball games were decided by less than five points including a 65-61 semifinal loss to eventual Class Three State Champio0n Lutheran St. Charles County

North Tech Girls Basketball finished 20-8 while the Boys Basketball team, who fell in the Class Three, District Five Semifinals to Lutheran North, finished 20-7. Meanwhile, Girls Basketball player Vivianna Carter took second last year in the Triple Jump marking only the third time North Tech Girls Track and Field had a second-place finisher. North Tech, in 2008, had two second-place finishers, in the 4×200 Relay and the Triple Jump (Brittany Turner).

McCLUER NORTH TRACK & FIELD fell short of taking home state trophies but did manage to have state championship athletes. McCluer North Girls took fifth place with 41 points, one behind fourth-place Eureka but the Stars won the Girls 4×100-Meter Relay while Kimberlin Simon won the 100 Meter Hurdles. McCluer North Boys finished sixth with 33 points two behind CBC and Truman, who shared third place, while Aaron Mallet, who was disqualified in the 110 Hurdles semifinals for hurdle encroachment, won the 300 Hurdles.

McCluer North Boys Basketball was a Class Five Quarterfinalist.

NORTH COUNTY CHRISTIAN won their second straight Missouri Christian State Baseball title despite playing only five games (three season games, two in state tournament) and was unbeaten. Boys and Girls Basketball teams each finished second in Christian State while Boys Soccer and Girls Volleyball each finished third.  Information on Boys Golf, Track & Field and Cheerleading were unavailable.
