Hazelwood West, Lutheran North Baseball Top Seeds As District Hosts

Hazelwood West and Lutheran North will be hosting Missouri State High School Activities Association Baseball District Tournaments as top seeds in the first year as a five class sport which begins May 10, the beginning of the road to the State Championships which ends May 27-June 1 at T. R. Hughes Ballpark in O’Fallon.

Hazelwood West will host Class Five, District Six and will play all games at Hazelwood Sports Complex located near the Intersection of Aubuchon and Teson Roads. Hazelwood West is the only team in Class Five, District Six with a winning record. The Wildcats, prior to May 6 have a 13-3 record and losing only to Northwest-Cedar Hill, Parkway West and Suburban North Conference rival Pattonville.

Hazelwood West has a first-round bye in the all-Suburban North Conference district and will play May 13 at 3 p.m., which means an early dismissal from school. The Wildcats play the winner of the May 11, 10 a.m. district opener between McCluer and Hazelwood East. Meanwhile Hazelwood Central and Riverview Gardens play the first-round game May 11 at 1 p.m., the winner plays second-seeded McCluer North May 13 at 5:30 and the May 13 winners play May 15 at 4:15 for the district championship with the district winner advancing to the Sectional round, May 21, time TBD, at the winner of District Five.

Lutheran North and second-seeded Trinity Catholic have first round byes in Class Three, District Five and Lutheran North will host the opening-round games on May 11 as Cardinal Ritter takes on Metro at 10 a.m. followed at 12 noon by Orchard Farm against Northwest Academy of Law. On May 13 at 4:15 Lutheran North hosts Cardinal Ritter or Metro while Trinity Catholic hosts Orchard Farm or Northwest Academy and the May 13 winners play the next day, May 14, 4:15 at Lutheran North for the district title with the winner hosting the District Six winner, May 20. Time TBD.

Despite a 7-12 record prior to May 6 Lutheran North was seeded first thanks to a season-opening doubleheader sweep March 16 at home over Trinity Catholic (5-0, 4-3). Since then Trinity Catholic went 15-4 and prior to May 6 is 15-6 overall, the only team in Class Three, District Five with a winning record.

CLASS FIVE, DISTRICT FOUR — Parkway North, district tournament host and the number one seed, and number two seed CBC will have first round byes and the first round begins May 11 at 11 a.m. Parkway Central hosts Suburban North Conference leader Pattonville while DeSmet hosts Parkway West. On May 13 Parkway North hosts Parkway Central or Pattonville at 3:30 while CBC hosts DeSmet or Parkway West at 4:30 and the winners play May 15, 4:15 at Parkway North for the district title and the right to visit the District Three winner May 21, time TBD.

CLASS FIVE, DISTRICT FIVE — St. Louis University High, district host and top seed, and Ladue, second seed, will have first-round byes which begin May 11 at St. Louis University High as Webster Groves takes on Gateway STEM at 11 a.m. while Chaminade meets Ritenour at 2 p.m. On May 13 at 4:30 SLUH plays Chaminade or Ritenour while Ladue hosts Webster Groves or Gateway and SLUH host the district final May 14 at 4:30 with the winner hosting the District Six winner, May 21, time TBD.

CLASS FOUR, DISTRICT SIX — Clayton and Shaw Park host the district beginning May 10 at 4:15 against Normandy the same time Mary Institute-Country Day School plays McCluer South-Berkeley and University City meets Jennings. On May 13 John Burroughs plays U. City or Jennings at 4 p.m. while Clayton or Normandy plays MICDS or MS-Berkeley at 6 p.m. and the championship game will be May 14 at 4 p.m. for the right to visit the District Five winner, May 21, time TBD.
