Hazelwood Central Girls Track &
Field Rolls Over McCluer North

From the results May 16 at the Class Five, District Three meet at Lutheran High School North it appears as if Hazeelwood Central is on a mission to win state for the second time in three years after finshing third last year, 19 points behind last year’s champion McCluer North.
And the results from Class Five, District Three were not even close. Hazelwood Central scored 179 points to win while McCluer North finished second with 119. That is a gap of 60 points.
Hazelwood Central will be going to Class Five, Sectional Two Saturday, May 23, at Mary Institute- Country Day School loaded and nearly balanced. The Hawks will send all four relay teams as well as 12 indidviduals competing in 10 events.
McCluer North may not have the depth of qualifying like Central but the Stars will have their share of athletes heading to MICDS. The Stars will compete in three relay events and will send seven individuals to compete in seven events.
Five Central athletes won indivdial district titles May 16 at Lutheran North. They include Taylor Ramsey, High Jump (5’2″), Destiny Brown, Triple Jump (37’0″), Cayla Mckenzie, Discus (111’4″), Ariana Phillips, 100 Meter Dash (12.44 seconds), and Destiny Nash, 400 Meter Dash (56.86 seconds). Two Relay teams — 4×200 Meters (1:41.02) and 4×100 Meters (47.43 seconds) — also won district titles.
There were six second place finishers in Class Five, District Three including the 4×400 Meter Relay (4:00.4). Among the indivdiuals finishing second were Shauniece O’Neal, Discus (102’11”) and Shot Put (34’8.5″), Aniyah Stiles, High Jump (5’2″-same as Ramsey but more attempts), Brittney Johnson, 100 Meter Dash (12.47 seconds), and Devyn Torbert, 300 Meter Hurdles (46.42 seconds).
Third place finishers include Ramsey, Shot Put, Phillips, 200 Meter Dash, Jhaere Mitchell, Long Jump and 100 Meter Hurdles, and Marcya Spivey, 100 Meter Dash. Finishing Fourth was the 4×800 Meter Relay.
McCluer North was led by Jasmine Barge, who won three indivdiaul events and played a role in winning the 4×400 Meter Relay (3:53.59). Barge won the 100 Meter Hurdles (14.06 seconds), the 300 Meter Hurdles (43.41 seconds) and the 200 Meter Dash (24.78 seconds).
McCluer North finished second in two relay and three individual events. Finishing second were the 4×200 Relay (1:43.73), the 4×100 Relay (48.32 seconds), Jayla Riggins, Long Jump (17’4″), Demetria Anderson, 100 Meter Hurdles (14.61 seconds), and Sydney Rogers, 400 Meter Dash (57.73 seconds).
Third place finishers include Anderson, 300 Meter Hurdles, and T’Keyah Thompson, 400 Meter Dash while Kiana Harvey, 100 Meter Dash and Barbara Boehm, 800 Meter run each finished fourth.
HAZELWOOD WEST qualifies two individuals in three events, including Rachel Hutchcraft, 3,200 Meter Run (second-12:42.24) and 1,600 Meter Run, and was second in the 4×800 Meter Relay (10:11.36). HAZELWOOD EAST will compete in two individual events including Creshonna Crenshaw, second in the 200 Meter Dash (25.26 seconds), and the 4×100 Meter Relay.
McCLUER, fourth in Class Four, District Three, will return to MICDS in four indivdual events, including 100 Meter Dash Champion Joanna Adams (12.58 seconds), and the 4×100 Meter Relay team.
In Class Three, Sectional Two at Montgomery County NORTH TECHNICAL will compete in four indivdual and two relay events while TRINITY CATHOLIC will compete in two indivdual events and the 4×200 Meter Relay. Winning District Three at LHSN were Constance Jackson, North Tech, 100 Meter Hurdles (15.51 seconds), and Maia Umana, Trimity Catholic, Shot Put (34’6″).
