Area Wrestling Teams in Districts at Francis Howell, Fort Zumwalt North

Florissant Valley Area High School Wrestling teams will be heading to a pair of St. Charles County high schools Friday-Saturday, Feb. 12-13.

Start times are 5 p.m. or 6 p.m Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday with weigh-ins beginning no earlier than 4 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday. There are 14 weight classes and the top four finishers advance to the State Championships Feb. 18-20 at Mizzou Arena, University of Missouri, Columbia with the tournament beginning Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. for Classes Three and Four and 10 a.m. for Classes One and Two and the tournament ending by 9:30 Feb. 20 after the championship matches.

Three of the area high schools will be competing in Class Four, District Two at Francis Howell, Weldon Spring, while two others will be in Class Three, District Two at Fort Zumwalt North, O’Fallon.

CLASS FOUR, DISTRICT TWO — Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood West and McCluer North will be competing at Francis Howell along with Columbia-Battle. Francis Howell Central, Francis Howell North, Fort Zumwalt West, Columbia-Hickman, Wentzville-Holt, Rockwood-Marquette, Pattonville, Ritenour, Wentzville-Timberland and Troy Buchanan. Top competing wrestlers (win-loss records through Feb. 7) include from Hazelwood Central senior Josiah Jackson (138 pounds–26-8), sophomore James McKenzie (145–29-13) and senior Michael Simon (285–15-7); from Hazelwood West senior Deronne Carson (120–36-4) and junior Dylan Crawford (170–24-17) or sophomore Christian Brinkley (170–24-15) and from McCluer North senior Efe Osaghae (145 or 152–32-1), junior Lejon Paynes (152-27-13), senior Cayelon Barton (220–34-7) and junior Mathew Wilke (285–38-6) or junior Solomon Jackson (285–27-8).

CLASS THREE, DISTRICT TWO — Hazelwood East and McCluer will be at Fort Zumwalt North along with Chaminade, Fort Zumwalt East, Fort Zumwalt South, Hannibal, Ladue-Horton Watkins, Parkway Central, Parkway North, Parkway West, St. Charles, Warrenton and Westminster Christian Academy but Riverview Gardens, winners of six state titles (1965-66, 1976-79), did not have a team. Top competing wrestlers (records through Feb. 7) include from Hazelwood East junior Fedrick Johnson (106 or 113–32-10), sophomore Pierre Snodgrass (152–25-12), senior Ulysses Thomas (160–27-20), senior Ozzie Furlow (195–28-17) and senior Saudiq Burns (220–28-12) and from McCluer senior Jarvis Hubbard (182–34-14).
