In honor of Presidents Day and the 204th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s Feb. 12 birth date, a special interview was produced for Cable TV and the City website. Mayor Thomas P. Schneider interviewed Abraham Lincoln as portrayed by actor Dick Benach. The two talked for over 30 minutes about various stages of Lincoln’s life from childhood to his Presidency during the American Civil War.
Benach frequently portrays historical figures in the metropolitan area. In addition to Lincoln he enjoys portraying characters of the Lewis and Clark expedition and other periods of early Florissant history. He is an Abraham Lincoln collector, devotee and presenter and is a life member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters and a life member of the Lincoln Forum. Schneider has a longtime interest in American history, has studied Lincoln through the years, and has been an avid reader of biographies and other books about Lincoln.
The combined interest in history of Benach and Schneider provided a unique opportunity to reflect on the personal life of one of America’s greatest presidents and most inspirational leaders.
The program is available on the Florissant website and on the Florissant Charter and AT&T government access channels.
