Restoration of the F-101 Voodoo Fighter Jet that sits on the top of the hill next to the James J. Eagan Center has been completed. The historic plane was in need of restoration after vandals damaged it in May. The vandals set the plane on fire and painted graffiti on it.
The plane was originally commissioned in 1960. It was dedicated in Florissant in 2004. The plane was built by McDonnell Douglas.
Mayor Schneider thanked the following for working on the restoration: Dwight “Red” Singleton, project manager- Boeing and his crew: Norvell Dunnuck, Mary Wilson, Dee Wilson, Tom Wilson, Joe Wilson, Rick Brown, Dan O’Hara, John Roller and Ron Linenfelser.
This team donated their personal time in restoring the Voodoo Jet. The mayor asked Boeing for help with the restoration, and these volunteers stepped up to do the work.
The Mayor also thanked Boeing, Sherwin Williams, Handyman Hardware, Hentzen Coatings-Paint and PPG Paint Company for donating the materials.
“Without the cooperation from everyone involved we would have not been able to complete this project,” the mayor said. “Florissant patriots salute you”
