The Garden Villas North was the perfect location for the annual Soroptimist International of Greater St. Louis Fashion Show and luncheon on Sat., Nov. 4th. More than 250 women flock to this event every year, because they know every dollar raised will go to local charities. They also know that this Soroptimist club puts on a good show and gives away many beautiful baskets for attendance prizes.
Cathy Bono, administrator of Delmar Gardens North, was the chair of the fashion show and Delmar Gardens was a major contributor. Other donors included the Garden Villas North, Jo & Sue Keuss, Click Heating & Cooling, Christian Hospital, Florissant License Office, Mobile Eye Care Solutions, Stygar Funeral Homes, Citizens National Bank, Nimmons Wealth Management, DePaul Hospital, Zykan Family Partnership, Camp Happy Day’s Children & Parents, Heartfelt Hands Senior Services, Hendel’s Market Café, Don Henefer Jewelers, Karen McKay, Kent Miller Photography, Nancy Lich, Saks Fifth Avenue, St. Louis Rams, and Stems Florist.
The models for the fashion show are recruited from the Soroptimist membership. This year, Michelle’s on North Main St. in St. Charles provided the fashions ranging from casual outfits and coats to formalwear and a wedding gown. The 12 models were escorted down a spiral staircase by tuxedo-clad Steve Kelly, Cliff Flex, Julian Flex and Howard Nimmons.
Each year, the Soroptimists recognize and honor one outstanding woman who has worked to improve the lives of women and girls through her professional and/or volunteer work. This year there were two winners of the Soroptimist Ruby Award—JoAnne Parrott and Jacquline Proctor.
Special recognition was given in memory of Eleanor Bergeld, a former Soroptimist, who bequeathed $20,000 to the club.
Soroptimist International of Greater St. Louis is a professional business women’s organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of girls and women in the community. The annual fashion show and luncheon is one of four fundraisers the club members conduct each year. In June, the combined proceeds of the fundraisers are awarded to local charities that apply and qualify. Anyone interested in joining the organization should contact this year’s president, Judy Bick at judy.bick@charter.net.
