North County Youth Task Force Meets June 21 To Address Teen Issues, Concerns

The newly organized North County Youth Task Force sponsored by North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony and Justice (NCCU) will be holding its first meeting on Thursday June 21, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Jamestown Mall.

This Task Force was formed out of a Community Forum held at Jamestown Mall on May 9 with a representative panel of local municipalities, schools, churches, law enforcement, the community college, and area businesses.

It was apparent from the panel discussions and from the question and answer period that followed, that many people are interesting in addressing the challenges youth present to the malls, schools, and communities. According to Rance Thomas, NCCU president, “we were very pleased with the turnout and enthusiasm expressed at the forum. We look forward to a very productive outcome from this event.”

The June 21st meeting will consist of small groups gathering and discussing ways to collect information on programs and activities that are currently available to address youth challenges and concerns. This information will be published in a Resource Guide and distributed throughout the North County.

In addition, groups will explore other activities and programs that would be beneficial to addressing the challenges youth present. Of course, youth are welcome and encouraged to participate in these discussions.
