Stewart Wins District Cross Country; Hazelwood West Qualifies For Sectionals

Nicholas Stewart, Cross Country runner from McCluer North, won the Class Four, District Three Boys Championship Oct. 20 at Blackburn Park, Webster Groves.

Stewart ran the course in 16:12 finishing three seconds ahead of runner up Dillon Williams (16:15), Webster Groves. St. Louis University High, led by third-place finisher Matt Nicholson (16:16), won the team title with 30 points, followed by Webster Groves (76), Hazelwood West (92) and  Ladue (94) teams that qualify to compete for the Sectional Two team title Oct. 27 at Forest Park and SLUH host it.

McCluer North (115) finished fifth and missed out in competing for sectional team points but Stewart will compete as an individual. Another McCluer North runner that finished in the top 10 is Nicholas Taylor (seventh) but the runners finishing in positions 11-30 qualify for sectionals but results were not available.

On the girls side Nerinx Hall (31), Ladue (41), Webster Groves (64) and Hazelwood West (99) advance to compete for the Sectional Two Team Championship Oct. 27 at Forest Park. Nerinx Hall was led by individual champion Sophia Racette (18:55.59).

Hazelwood West, who will be competing for team points in the Oct. 27 Sectional Two meet, was led by a pair of sixth-place runners, Travis Staebell-Boys (16:45.68) and Erica Atnip-Girls (20:17.49).

Also advancing to sectionals as a Girls Individual is Emily Mitulski, McCluer (10th).The top four teams, boys and girls, and runners in the top 30 at Forest Park advance to State, Nov. 3 in Jefferson City.
