McCluer North Baseball Gets Top

Seed At Home In Class 5, District 5

Despite a 9-12 record prior to May 7, including a six-game losing streak from April 13 to April 20, McCluer North, the host of Class Five, District Five, is the top seed.

McCluer North competes in the Suburban Conference, Red Pool, along with District Six Hazelwood West and fifth-seeded Ritenour. Hazelwood Central, seeded second, is in the Suburban Green Pool while third-seeded Hazelwood East, fourth-seeded McCluer and sixth se3eded Riverview Gardens are in the Suburban Blue Pool. Hazelwood East (6-2 as of May 6) and McCluer (7-5 as of April 29) are the only teams in Class Five, District Five with winning records.

McCluer North and Hazelwood Central (6-10 as of May 3) will not play the first round Saturday, May 11. Meanwhile on Saturday at 11 a.m., Hazelwood East hosts Riverview Gardens and McCluer hosts Ritenour. In the 4 p.m. district semifinal games at McCluer North the Stars play McCluer or Ritenour on May 13 while Hazelwood Central takes on Hazelwood East or Riverview on May 14. Semifinal winners return to McCluer North May 16 in a 4 p.m. district final.

HAZELWOOD WEST, a district champion last year is the six seed in Class Five, District Six and opens Saturday, 10 a.m. at Francis Howell Central. The winner plays at second seeded DeSmet Jesuit May 13 at 4:15. As of May 6 Hazelwood West is 6-12, Francis Howell Central is 7-19 and DeSmet is 7-11-1.

On the other half of the Class Five, District Six bracket Pattonville (5-15 as of April 29), visits Parkway Central (6-18 as of May 1) Saturday at 11 a.m. and the winner visits district host Parkway North (17-9 as of May 6) May 13 at 4:15, the District Six Final is May 15, 4:15 at Parkway North.

The District Five Champion hosts the District Six Champion is a May 21 Sectional with that winner taking on the District Seven Champion or the District Eight Champion in a May 23 Quarterfinal at site to be determined. The State Semifinal, Third Place and Championship games are May 31-June 1 at Car Shield Field, formerly T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O’Fallon, home of the Frontier League’s River City Rascals.

TRINITY CATHOLIC moves up from Class Three to Class Four and, despite a 9-7 record prior to May 7, is the sixth seed in District Seven at St. Charles West, plays Saturday, 11 a.m. against Orchard Farm (10-9 prior to May 7) and the winner plays May 12, 4 p.m. against St. Charles West (10-8 prior to May 7). Also on Saturday O’Fallon Christian (10-11 prior to May 6) plays St. Charles High (7-14 as of May 6) at 1:30, with the winner playing top-seed Lutheran St. Charles County (16-9 prior to May 7) May 13 at 1:30.

The May 13 winners return to St. Charles West May 15 at 4 p.m. The District Seven Champion hosts the District Eight Champion in a Class Four Sectional May 21 with that winner playing the District Five Champion or District Six Champion May 23 at site to be determined. The State Semifinal, Third-Place and Championship games are May 30-31 at Car Shield Field.

LUTHERAN NORTH, winners of four consecutive districts titles, is 1-16 prior to May 6, hosts Class Three, District Six and plays Duchesne (7-16 prior to May 7) Saturday at 4 p.m. Also on Saturday North Technical (1-6 prior to May 6) plays Montgomery County (4-2 prior to May 3) at 12:30 while Bowling Green (8-4 prior to May 6) takes on Elsberry (4-9 prior to May 6) at 10 a.m. Lutheran North is also hosting Class Three District Two Track and Field on Saturday.

On May 13, Bowling Green or Elsberry plays Hermann (11-8 prior to May 4) at 2 p.m. while North Tech or Montgomery County plays Lutheran North or Duchesne at 4:30. The May 13 winners play May 13 at 4:30 with the winner visiting the District Five winner in a May 29 Sectional. The Quarterfinal is May 22 at site to be determined. The Semifinal, Third Place and Championship are May 27-28 at Car Shield Field.
