Hazelwood Superintendent to Serve on State School Administrators Association

Chris L. Wright, superintendent of the Hazelwood School District, is serving as the Greater St. Louis representative on the Federal Relations Committee for the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA) during the 2008-2009 school year.

She will also serve on the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) Governing Board through 2011. Wright was selected by her colleagues in Missouri to serve in these leadership positions.

Dr. Wright has been a teacher and administrator in Missouri public schools for 32 years. She has been the Superintendent of Hazelwood School District since July 2002. She earned an A.B. from Indiana University in 1973, an M.A. from the University of Missouri in St. Louis in 1982 and a Ph.D. from St. Louis University in 1991.

She is a former MASA president and a former chair of the Board of Directors for Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis. Dr. Wright previously served as chair of both the Suburban Schools and Women’s Advisory Committees of AASA. In addition, she serves as a clinical professor on the graduate faculty of St. Louis University in the department of educational leadership and has consulted with several other universities on the development of leadership programs.

She is an active member of a number of professional and civic organizations. The University of Missouri in St. Louis has recognized Dr. Wright as a Distinguished Alumnus and several community organizations have acknowledged her service to children and families.

MASA is a strong advocate for public education in Missouri. The organization lobbies intensely for additional education funds at the state Capitol. MASA also provides critical information to its membership regarding the status of legislation and other issues of interest to school administrators.
