Girls Volleyball begins the road to the MSHSAA State Championships with district tournaments on Oct. 22-25, continue Oct. 27 with sectional tournaments including the state quarterfinal round and ends Nov. 2-3 with the state championships at the Show-Me Center, Cape Girardeau, on the Southeast Missouri State University campus.
Hazelwood West and Incarnate Word Academy are among the top seeds in district tournaments.
Hazelwood West is the top seed in Class Four, District Six at McCluer High School. None of the six teams in the district tournament have a winning record prior to Oct. 15. West, prior to Oct. 15, has a record of 8-13 and two of their matches have not been reported.
Hazelwood West will play Oct. 25 at 4:30 against the winner of the Oct. 23, 4 p.m. match between Hazelwood East, the only Suburban North Conference team to win state (1982) and tournament host McCluer. Hazelwood Central (6-10 prior to Oct. 17 with two matches not reported) is the second seed and will play Oct. 25 at 5:45 against the winner of the Oct. 23, 5:15 match between McCluer North and Riverview Gardens. The championship match is Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. and that winner plays two days later, Oct. 27, in Class Four, Sectional Two at the winner of District Seven for the a shot at a trip to Cape Girardeau.
Incarnate Word is hosting Class Four, District Five as the top seed. IWA, 14-10 prior to Oct. 16, holds the MSHSAA record for most state titles, 11, but is looking to win their first state title since 2005. IWA begins Oct. 24, 4 p.m. against the winner of the Oct. 22, 4 p.m. match between Ritenour and Normandy.
Pattonville, 14-11-1 prior to Oct. 16, is seeded second and will play Oct. 24, 5 p.m. against the winner of the Oct. 22, 5 p.m., match between Rosati-Kain and Gateway Tech. The championship match is Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. and the winner will be playing in Class Four, Sectional Two, Oct. 27 at the winner of District Seven.
CLASS THREE — North St. Louis County teams will play in District Six at St. Charles High. The Tournament begins Oct. 22 with a 5:15 match between McCluer South-Berkeley and North Tech followed by a 6:30 match between Trinity Catholic and Jennings. On Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. tourney host St. Charles plays McCluer South-Berkeley and North Tech, Duchesne follows at 6:15 against Trinity or Jennings and the day closes out with a 7:30 championship match for the right to play Oct. 27 in Class Three, Sectional Two at the winner of District Seven.
CLASS TWO — Lutheran North will play in District Six in Hallsville Oct. 22 at 6:45 against Orchard Farm and the winner plays Oct 23, 6:45 against the winner of the Oct. 22, 5:30 Centralia-Montgomery County match. Lutheran-St. Charles County is the top seed and will play Oct. 23, 5:30 against the winner of the Oct. 22 8 p.m. Hallsville-Bowling Green match and the championship match is Oct. 23, 8 p.m.. The district champion plays in Class Two, Sectional Two, Oct. 27 at the winner of District Seven.
