Matheny Will Be Most Interesting to Watch Early in Spring Training

We are more than half way through the winter and we haven’t seen much snowfall at all. It almost feels like baseball weather here in the late part of January and the first part of February.

Actually, spring training is not that far off. I am so anxious to see what the Redbirds have in store for the fans this year. I have spoken to so many people these past few weeks and they all seem to say the same thing.

They are excited about the hire of Mike Matheny as manager but the second response is always, is he to young? There are a lot of players that were his peers in this league. Guys that he played with like Chris Carpenter. How is he going to be able to separate his managerial duties with his friend duties?

It is hard to be friend with someone you are a boss of, sooner or later it causes a problem. I can see this being brought up during this year in some situation. On the other hand though, he is young and in tune with what the player of today needs. The game is different, the clubhouse atmosphere is different and I think that this will work in his favor.

The other aspect that I like is that Mike Matheny is classified as a classy, wholesome guy; I hope that this rubs off in the clubhouse and all of this foolishness that goes on with many players will stop. It is really weird that it seems like nobody is even talking about Albert Pujols.

It’s  kind of like the Highway 40 construction. Everyone thought that the world was going to end with that, that we would sit in hours and hours of traffic. After it was all said and done, it wasn’t that bad and we are much better off as a metropolitan area. It has improved our transportation. Do the comparisons.

It is coming up rapidly, I just think that we are going to see a dumping of snow over the next few weeks and it is going to feel like Football weather again

A Soft Vote for the Patriots Sunday

The Super Bowl game is just around the corner. Who do you think will win? Frankly, I don’t really care. I am not the biggest Patriots fan but I am even less of a Giants fan. I guess it will come down to the emotional stories of the players. Whoever has the best or saddest, that is who I’ll root for.

I am a big fan though of Wes Welker of the Patriots, so I might be leaning a bit towards them. It just doesn’t seem like there is much hype about the game and we are just a few days away. I will say the Pats by 10 if I am forced to choose.

How about those Mizzou Tigers and the basketball program, Everybody wanted to run Frank Haith out of town before he even got here, now he is everybody’s hero. It is funny how winning changes everything and solves a ton of problems.

Even I am surprised that Mizzou has changed things around the way they did being ranked as high as #2 in the country. Pretty impressive. Gary Pinkel better step up his game for next year in the SEC. It is so good to see a Missouri school back in the national spotlight.
