BEFORE AND AFTER: Haley Reynolds got her long pretty red hair cut at Hair Benders in Florissant on Saturday as part of the Lock of Love fundraiser. Her beautiful red locks will provide a hairpiece for a child suffering from hair loss due to medical reasons.

It was only the second North County Locks of Love Fundraiser, but it was deemed a huge success, by event coordinator Karen McKay, owner of Hair Benders in Florissant.

“The staff at Hair Benders in Florisssant had a line of people waiting as the doors opened at noon Dec 1, to begin the Locks of Love fundraiser,” said said.

Locks of Love is a not-for profit organization that provides hairpieces to children suffering from medical hair loss.

Stylists stayed busy the entire event only taking a break to enjoy a fast lunch provided by Pirrones Pizza. Each person donating ten inches or more hair received a totally new style along with a small gift from Hair Benders.

There were several people who made donations of $20 and more for cuts under ten inches during the event.
This year’s fundraiser was dedicated in memory of Lisa Marie David McKenney who had lost her fight to cancer in October. A total of 756 inches of hair was collected during the event, that’s 63 feet of hair.

This event was also a huge success due to the corporate sponsors: SSM-DePaul Health Center, Delmar Gardens North, Kwik Kopy, and Pirrones Pizza.

Several thousand dollars raised during this campaign will accompany the trail of 63 feet hair donation of ponytails and braids to Locks of Love at weeks end.
