LHSN Seeks 6th Straight District Title; Trinity Suffers Forfeit, 41-6 Loss

BY JIM WIENERS

Lutheran High School North, after losing three out their first four football games, have won four out of their last five, including two in Class Three, District Five, and the Crusaders are one win away from winning their sixth straight district title.

Friday at 7 p.m. Lutheran North visits Trinity Catholic High School and the Crusaders face a Titan team that was unable to shake off a forfeit of a Sept. 7 game at Bishop DuBourg,. That game was completed Sept. 8 due to thunderstorms, and then was blown out last Saturday at McCluer South-Berkeley, 41-6. Lutheran North (5-4 overall, 2-0 +20 District) was coming off a 34-18 home win over Cardinal Ritter (3-6, 0-2 -26).

What was to be a 12-7 Trinity win over DuBourg was nullified on Oct. 23 when the Missouri State High School Activities Association, according to published reports, said that one of the Trinity players was not cleared to play that game.
He has been cleared after the Sept. 14 game, winning 51-16 over Grandview. That forfeit cost Trinity a share of the AAA title with St. Dominic, who has the title all to themselves. Last Saturday Trinity (5-4 1-1 +0) was unable to rebound with the loss to MS-Berkeley .

Lutheran North can wrap up the district title even without a win but then the outcome of another Friday, 7 p.m., Class Three, District Five game, MS-Berkeley at Cardinal Ritter. LHSN can win the district title with a loss to Trinity if the Crusaders lose by no more than nine points and MS-Berkeley wins by less than five.

For Trinity to win the Class Three District Five title the Titans must beat LHSN and Cardinal Ritter beats MS-Berkeley. If MS-Berkeley wins the Titans need to beat the Crusaders by 10 or more as long as MS-Berkeley wins by three points or less or wins in overtime. For MS-Berkeley to win the Bulldogs need to beat Cardinal Ritter by more than four points and Trinity wins by 10 over Lutheran North.

The Class Three, District Five winner hosts the Nov. 7 sectional but LHSN.
CLASS SIX, DISTRICT FOUR–RIVERVIEW GARDENS AT PATTONVILLE, FRIDAY, 7 p.m.–HAZELWOOD CENTRAL AT HAZELWOOD WEST, SATURDAY, 1 p.m.– Hazelwood Central (4-5, 3-3 Suburban North Conference, 1-1 +0) and Hazelwood West (3-6, 2-4, 1-1 +0) battle to avoid going winless against Hazelwood School District teams. Last weekend Hazelwood Central won 31-6 at Riverview Gardens (1-8, 0-6, 0-2 -26) while Pattonville (5-4, 4-2, 2-0 +26) secured the district title with a 50-6 home win over Hazelwood West.
