McCluer North’s Mary Goldkamp and Hazelwood East’s Charles Johnson were winners last Saturday in Class Four, District Four Cross Country at McCluer North.
Goldkamp wins her fourth straight girls district title with a 20:23 effort, 36 seconds better than Parkway North’s Michelle Gronemeyer. Johnson won the boys district title in 17:11, about 22 seconds better than Parkway North’s Mark Hayden.
McCluer North was second to Pattonville in boys and girls team competition and will join Hazelwood West and Parkway North boys and girls teams in competing in Sectional Two this Saturday in the Central fields of Forest Park. Also competing for the top four spots to advance to state, Nov. 4 in Jefferson City, are boys’ teams from St. Louis University High, DeSmet, Chaminade, and Parkway Central and girls’ teams from St. Joseph’s Academy, Webster Groves, Nerinx Hall and Incarnate Word Academy.
While Goldkamp will have all of her teammates at Forest Park Johnson will be one of two boys from Hazelwood East who will also have two girls compete as individuals for a shot at finishing in the top 30, needed to qualify for state. Also going to Forest Park to run as individuals are three girls and a boy from Hazelwood Central and two boys from Riverview Gardens.
Meanwhile Classes One, Two and Three compete in district meets this Saturday with the top two teams and runners from other teams in the top 15 going to Jefferson City Nov. 4. That includes McCluer South-Berkeley in Class Three, District Three at McNair Park in St. Charles and Lutheran North, host of Class Two, District Two at Spanish Lake Park.
MSHSAA Boys Soccer will begin district play this Saturday or Monday. Trinity Catholic, runner up in 2003, 2005 in Class Two, will host the Class One, District Two Tournament beginning Monday. Metro-St. Louis meets Crossroads at 5 p.m. while Yeshiva takes on Lutheran North at 7 p.m. Monday’s winners play Nov. 1 against John Burroughs, at 5 p.m., or Trinity Catholic, at 7 p.m.
In Class Three McCluer North will host District Two, with games to be held at Florissant Valley Park, Civic Center Field, adjacent to the Eagan Civic Center. Seedings and Parings, along with dates and times were not available at press time but competing at Civic Center Field along with McCluer North, Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East, Hazelwood West and McCluer.
