The Florissant Police Department has been made aware of people calling Florissant residents claiming to be Florissant Police officers, and attempting to solicit monetary donations for Officer Mike Vernon over the telephone. One such person is requesting the funds to be sent to an address in Jefferson City, MO.
The Florissant Police Department wants to make the public aware that we are in no way soliciting donations over the phone, and if you are contacted by one of these persons, to please call the police.
Joe’s Pub in Old Town Florissant will open its doors to the public Saturday to host a fundraiser for Officer Vernon and his family. On Saturday, June 2 at 2 p.m. and keep going until 10 p.m. The event will feature live music, raffles and drawings, too.
Officer Vernon is currently being treated at DePaul Hospital where he was listed in critical, but stable condition as of Tuesday of this week. Officer Vernon has a spinal cord injury . Officer Vernon is also being treated for additional injuries were one of the bullets penetrated his lungs.
Officer Vernon is reported to be in high spirits, and he is determined to fight through his injuries and make a recovery. He expressed appreciation to the community’s outpouring of support.
Warrants were issued Monday, May 28, charging Brian Lamont Cannon Jr. of St. Louis with the shooting of Officer Vernon , the Florissant Police Dept. reported
St. Louis County Prosecting Attorney’s Office listed the following charges:
• Assault in the First Degree of a Law Enforcement Officer
• Armed Criminal Action • Burglary in the Second Degree.
