DeSmet Wins Class 4, District 3 Golf, Haz. West Qualifies 3 For Sectionals

DeSmet Jesuit High Boys Golf and one of their golfers, Nicholas Arman, were winners in the Class Four, District Three championships April 24 at Whitmoor Country Club in St. Charles.

DeSmet won with a team stroke total of 310, six strokes better than Metro Catholic Conference Champion Chaminade and both qualified to compete in Sectional Two team competition that took place May 2 at Innsbrook Golf Course, a par-71 course in Wright City (results were not available at press time). Also in competition for team points because each team sent four to Class Four Sectional Two were Pattonville, third in District Three (350) and Parkway Central (fourth-357).

Arman won the individual Class Four, District Three title with an even-par, 71-stroke effort. Arman finished four strokes ahead of the district runner up and Chaminade’s top performer, Chris Lambert (75).

Hazelwood West sent three golfers to Sectional Two May 2. They include Alex Spurgetis (87), Keith Garland (90) and Derek Furuya (91). Other golfers that competed May 2 in Class Four, Sectional Two were Zach Schulz, McCluer North (86), and Timothy Lee, Hazelwood East (86).

The top two teams and the top 12 golfers from teams that place third or lower will compete in the Class Four State Championships, May 14-15 at the Silo Ridge Golf Club, a par-72 course in Bolivar.

Pattonville Wins Suburban North, Hazelwood West Second

Only three Suburban North Conference teams scored points in the Boys Golf conference meet, April 27 at Emerald Green, a par-70 course. Pattonville, with a team stroke total of 334, won the meet, Hazelwood West (374) was second and McCluer North (379) was third.

Pattonville’s Jacob Masek was the Suburban North individual winner with a nine-over par 79, two strokes better than runner up and teammate Alex Maierhoffer (81). Spurgetis (91) led the way for West while the top conference golfer for McCluer North was Wilnard Anderson (85).
