Hazelwood Boys Lacrosse Starts 6-1

SPRING NOTES — Playing as a Club sport and the only area team, Hazelwood Boys Lacrosse, mainly fielding players from Hazelwood Central and Hazelwood West High Schools, is off to a 6-1 start.

That includes a 2-0 record in the four-team Suburban XII Conference with wins over Rockwood Summit (11-5) and Kirkwood (15-7). The Hawks remaining Suburban XII game is the regular season finale, May 9, against Webster Groves, 5 p.m. at St. Ferdinand Park.

Non Conference wins are against Parkway West (9-2), Lindbergh (9-4), Westminster Christian Academy (13-2) and Columbia-Rock Bridge (8-3) and the only loss was to St. Louis Priory (14-4). Hawk leaders include senior Nick Jambga with 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 points, junior Blake Terry and sophomore Tommy Randazzo, 14 goals each, and senior Jonathan Wishnask, picking up 58 Ground Balls. The goalkeeping of senior Logan Humphrey and junior Steve Dliabick has allowed 5.29 goals per game, best in the Suburban XII.

Hazelwood visits O’Fallon Sports Center

Thursday, April 20, for a 5 p.m. face off against Fort Zumwalt before returning to St. Ferdinand Park Sunday, April 23, to play Columbia-Hickman at 11 a.m. Also at St. Ferdinand Park the Hawks play Clayton April 26 and Wentzville (Holt) May 2 (rescheduled from March 30) in 5 p.m. games. Hazelwood heads to Mexico, Mo., April 29 for marches against Belleville (Ill.) Township and Missouri Military Academy and plays at Parkway South May 3.

   GOLF  – McCLUER NORTH, TRINITY CATHOLIC are the only area schools fielding Boys Golf but Trinity, which does not have Girls Golf, have Girls on the Boys team. On May 1 at 8 a.m. McCluer North will be in Class Four, District Two at The Quarry at Crystal Springs, Maryland Heights, hosted by CBC while Trinity will be in Class Two, District Five at Bear Creek Golf Club, Wentzville, hosted by Lutheran St. Charles County.

The top two teams and the top 15 golfers from the teams finish third or lower in districts advance to the May 8 sectionals at courses to be determined by any of the qualifying teams. From Sectionals the top two teams and the top 12 golfers on teams that finish third or lower advance to State May 15-16 at Twin Hills Golf & Country Club, Joplin (Class Four) and Fremont Hills Country Hills, Nixa (Class Two)/

McCluer North will participate April 26, 8 a.m. in the Suburban Conference meet at Gateway National Links Course, Madison, Ill., while Trinity will participate April 24 in the Archdiocesan Athletic Association meet at The Falls in O’Fallon, Mo. After districts Trinity hosts a Tournament May 3, 1 p.m., at Eagle Springs Golf Course, off Redman Road.

MCSAA — NORTH COUNTY CHRISTIAN will be sending their Baseball, Girls Soccer and Track & Field (Boys and Girls) teams to the Missouri Christian State Athletic Association Tournaments May 4-6 in Joplin.
