McCluer North, MICDS To Host Track District Meets on May 15

Area high schools will be taking part in Missouri State High School Activities Association District Track & Field Championship meets,  May 15 at McCluer North and Mary Institute-Country Day School.

The top four finishers in each of 18 boys and 18 girls events advance to sectional competition May 22 at sites unavailable at press time. The top four finishers in each sectional event will move on to the State Championships, May 28-29 at Lincoln University’s Dwight T. Reed Stadium, Jefferson City.

Seven of the eight Suburban North Conference teams will compete in Class Four, District Two at SNC rival McCluer North. They include all three high schools in the Hazelwood School District — Central, East (defending boys state champions) and West — McCluer, Ritenour and Riverview Gardens. Also competing at McCluer North are two Public High League teams, Gateway Tech and Roosevelt, a former Suburban North team, Normandy, now competing in the Suburban East Conference, St. Louis University High, an all-boys school, and Incarnate Word Academy, an all-girls school.

Meanwhile Lutheran High School North, McCluer South-Berkeley, North County Technical and Trinity Catholic will be at MICDS in Class Three, District Three. Also competing at MICDS are Clayton and Jennings, rivals of MS-Berkeley in the Suburban East, Duchesne, St. Charles High, St. Charles West, John Burroughs, Northwest Academy of Transportation and Law in St. Louis, Priory, an all-boys school, University City, Westminster Christian Academy and two all-girls schools from West County, Villa Duchesne and Visitation. MS-Berkeley is the defending Class Three Girls State Champion.

Pattonville, the only other Suburban North school, will be in Class Four, District Four at Francis Howell North against Francis Howell, Fort Zumwalt and Wentzville schools and Parkway North.

Prior to district track many schools will be competing in conference tournaments most done by May 6. The Suburban North Conference meet is a two-day affair at Pattonville Stadium, May 5-6. Suburban East Conference teams meet May 6 at McCluer South-Berkeley while Trinity Catholic, who won the Archdiocesan Athletic Association Boys Relays, competed in the boys and girls AAA meet, May 5 at Cardinal Ritter. North Technical, an independent, will be competing May 8 at the Normandy Invitational.

On April 24 at The Principia Lutheran North Boys won the ABC League Championship while in Girls Track & Field at the Midwest Women’s Athletic Association meet, won by Nerinx Hall, Lutheran North finished sixth while Incarnate Word finished in 11th place. Lutheran North Boys winners in the ABC League include Kevin Hagens at 100 Meters, Cletus Hatten at 200 Meters, Adam Prahlow at 1,600 meters, Martin Hill in the Long Jump, Richard Burruss in the triple Jump, the 4×100-Meter Relay and 4×200-Meter Relay.

NORTH COUNTY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL Girls took first place in the Missouri Christian State Track and Field Championships in Joplin last month while the NCCS Boys took second, according to the school‘s web site. This is the first year of Track & Field for NCCS, a MSHSAA affiliated registered school, and competed in all pre-state meets at St, Louis Community College at Florissant Valley.
