Were Tigers Looking Too Far Ahead in NCAA Tournament?

By Randy Gardner

What an abrupt end to something that looked so promising, that is the Mizzou Basketball team in the National Championship hunt. I didn’t even have time to get my jersey cleaned and wear it. I thought that the first few rounds would be a breeze but I was fooled.

I didn’t even watch the first game thinking it would be a blow out and then I heard the news. The news that the big MIZ-ZOU had fallen in the first round to Norfolk State?

How does this happen? Is it that classic statement that I always talk about where a team or a player thinks that they are bigger than the game itself. Actually, if you ask me, I would say that this had a major part in the downfall.    Mizzou was touted to go so far into the tournament that they might have  overlooked the first  rounds and were already booking a  Final Four trip.

This just goes to show you that anything can happen on any given day. Unfortunately, with this huge blow to the conscious of my lackluster basketball watching needs, I haven’t been keeping up with the tourney really at all. I will watch the Championship game just because I like the glory and celebration behind it.

Blues Deserve the Spotlight Now!

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about how Cards baseball seems to be taking a backseat to Blues Hockey. I had a few people disagree with me on that this week. They said that the Cards are kind of out of sight, out of mind right now but as soon as the season starts and the team is home and tangible per say that they will be right back at the top of the heap of information. I think this is true but the Blues do deserve some major attention.

This team is on fire and looks like they might be going into the Playoffs as a number 1 seed. That might be good and that might be bad, look at the fortunes of Mizzou, everyone expected so much and got so little.

I have had a chance to watch a few programs about the Blues, kind of a behind the scenes look and it is fascinating to watch how an older Ken Hitchcock connects with this team. It is also neat to watch how the players somewhat coach themselves and other teammates. What a story this would be to have the Blues under a new coach win it all this year.

I want to say thanks to everyone who came up and said that they enjoy my column at the Accessible Play, Inc. trivia night this past weekend. Fortunately, I had the pleasure of once again emceeing the event. Thanks again for reading and following me and the paper every week.
