After starting the 2012 season with four straight losses Hazelwood Central Girls Soccer has won four of their last six games including two last weekend, April 6-7 in the Parkway College Showcase.
Hazelwood Central lost three straight in the Fort Zumwalt East/Fort Zumwalt South Tournament— 4-0 to St. Charles West, 2-1 to Hazelwood West and 4-2 to Francis Howell Central. In the Hazelwood Classic Central lost 3-0 to Lindbergh, won 3-0 over Jefferson City and lost 2-0 to Columbia, Ill.
Since then Hazelwood Central won at home over Trinity Catholic High School, 4-1, and lost at Duchesne, 2-0. Last weekend at the Anheuser-Busch Center (formerly St. Louis Soccer Park), Fenton, Hazelwood Central, with a pair of 2-1 wins, defeated Farmington, Mo., and Carbondale, Ill.
Hazelwood Central hosts Hazelwood West April 12 at 4 p.m.
Among three goalkeepers Alexis Chappelle has the most playing time, 640 out of 720 minutes, has 1.88 goals against average and made 54 saves. Caitlyn Obrock led Hazelwood Central in scoring with five goals and four assists for 14 points while Aaliyah Smith has four goals and two assists for 10 points.
Hazelwood West Off To 5-4 Start
It has been an up and down start for Hazelwood West which includes a consolation championship at the Fort Zumwalt East/Fort Zumwalt South Tournament, taking third place at the Hazelwood Classic and was 1-2 in the past week. Hazelwood West takes their 5-4 record to Hazelwood Central April 12 at 4 p.m.
Hazelwood West opened the season with a 2-1 loss at Fort Zumwalt East then after winning over Hazelwood Central at Fort Zumwalt East Hazelwood West won the consolation title game of the Fort Zumwalt East/Fort Zumwalt South Tournament with a 3-1 win over Wentzville Holt.
At the Hazelwood Classic Hazelwood West at home defeated Columbia, Ill., 3-2, lost to Rockwood-Summit, 3-2 and defeated Lindbergh, 3-1. Since then Hazelwood West won at McCluer, 10-0 (called after 68 minutes due to the 10-goal margin rule), lost at home to Lafayette, 1-0, and, in the Parkway College Showcase at the A-B Center, lost 1-0 to Oakville.
Among three goalkeepers Alex Linck has played 545 out of 653 minutes, has a 1.47 goals against average with 38 saves. In the leading scorers Mariah Gove has 18 points including eight goals while Ashley Geist has 13 points including seven assists. Both Gove and Geist have scored two game-winning goals.
Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood West Visits Waynesville, Rolla
Hazelwood Central and Hazelwood West plans to visit Rolla and Waynesville April 13-14. On April 13 at 5 p.m. Hazelwood Central is at Waynesville while Hazelwood West is at Rolla, On April 14 at 12 noon Hazelwood Central is at Rolla while Hazelwood West is at Waynesville.
