Many Strange Events at The World Series, Just A Few Days Before Halloween

BY RANDY GARDNER

As you know with a time sensitive column and a deadline before Game 6 of the World Series, anything can happen between the time I write the column and the day that you read it. For example, the World Series might be over right now and the Texas Rangers are celebrating in their own city. Maybe the Cards are tied with Game 7 on the line tonight (Thursday)

Another scenario is that the weather here in St. Louis wreaked havoc with the Series and we are just now on Thursday or Friday playing Game 6.

All of these scenarios are a possibility. Hopefully the first one is out of the question though.

You  might know that I am not much of an x’s and o’s type guy especially with baseball but some of the execution in game 5 was horrible. One that comes to mind the most and that is causing the most controversy is Albert Pujols calling his own signals for a hit-and-run in which Alan Craig was gunned down at second. Is the player bigger than the game itself or has he earned the right to do what he did?

If it doesn’t work like it didn’t in his case,  everyone second guesses but if it would have been successful, he would have been an extreme genius. What about Tony’s explanation about the phone pitching mishap with the bullpen. Do you buy it or not?

Doesn’t the bullpen coach have any say or question about his decision, wouldn’t you think that he kind of knew who should be in the game, either way Tony’s lighthearted approach after the game leaves me wondering. Early in the season when games don’t mean that much he explodes to reporters after a loss but in the World Series he laughs off a major problem like what happened with calling for the wrong pitcher. I thought that this could never happen but apparently it does.

I heard Jason Isringhausen on a sports radio talk show say that it happens all the time; it just isn’t emphasized as much because it isn’t the World Series. No matter what else happens in the Series it has been a great one— one of the best World Series that I can remember. I am really curious to see what the final ratings are; I think they will be extremely high. Look at it either way, the Cards were only 1 of 2 teams that are playing in late October.

When Will Rams Win Their 1st Game?

On the other hand, we have the Rams who I don’t think will find a win till maybe week 14 or 15 if they are lucky. When you say that the ball just doesn’t bounce your way, this is so true for the Rams.

This is a completely different  team without Sam Bradford. Even though we are losing, it is still fun to see what Bradford has to offer in a game, you can see him grow and mature every week. We have to expect mistakes but man it would be nice to win one once in a while.

The team had better be doing some extra PR work in the community to keep their fans base intact. Like I have been saying, as soon as baseball is over, all eyes will be on the Rams and this magnify there losing ways. Maybe the baseball Series can get rained out until December, just joking.

As I wrap up, no matter what any of the St. Louis teams do in any sport, I am proud to call St. Louis my hometown and that I route for the Cards, Blues, and Rams.  But, I think that we all cheer a bit louder when the teams are winning like the Cards have since late August.
