Prep Notebook Hazelwood West, Trinity, Lutheran N. Are Boys Soccer Districts’ Top Seeds

Hazelwood West, Trinity Catholic and Lutheran North are each seeded first in boys’ high school soccer district tournaments that are scheduled to begin this weekend in other districts.

Hazelwood West will be playing in Class Three, District Six at Florissant Civic Center grounds and will open the tournament Nov. 1 at 5 p.m.  against McCluer High while second-seeded McCluer North plays Hazelwood Central at 7 p.m. The two winners play Nov. 3 at 6:30 in the championship game.

Trinity Catholic High will host Class Two, District Four and the tournament opens Nov. 1 with a 5 p.m. game between Miller Career Academy and Vashon with the winner playing Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. against Trinity. The first game on Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. pits Soldan International Studies against Gateway Tech and the Nov. 2 winners advance to the championship game, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.

Lutheran North will host Class One, District Three and all the games will start at 3:30. With two fields in the LHSN athletic complex the host Crusades play North Tech Nov. 1 the same day and time that Crossroads College Prep meets Metro with McKinley Classical Leadership. The two winners play Nov. 3 in the championship game fore the night to host the Nov. 8 section round.

Each numbered district winner will play at the winner of odd-number districts on Nov. 8 with those winners playing Nov. 12 at sites to be determined for the right to play Nov 18-19 in Blue Springs.

GIRLS GOLF: YN 8th IN STATE: Hazelwood West girls golfer Alicia Yn saved her best finish in the Missouri Class Two State Tournament for her senior year as Yn, albeit was 13 over par 83 in a one-day, rain shortened tournament Oct. 18 in Sedalia. She finished in a three-way tie for eighth place with Patricia DeCastro, Columbia-

Hickman, and Anna Kloppel, Park Hill. The trio finished 11 strokes behind state champion Lindsey Eisenreich, Rockwood Summit (72) on the par-70 Sedalia Country Club.

Columbia-Rock Bridge won the team title while Incarnate Word Academy finished seventh.

   CROSS COUNTRY: STAR, ‘CATS, RED KNIGHTS SEND TEAMS TO SECTIONALS: McCluer North and Hazelwood West Boys Cross Country teams and the Incarnate Word Academy Girls Cross Country team advance to the Class Four, Sectional Two meet, Oct. 29 at McNair Park in St. Charles.  The top four teams and runners in the top 30 advance to the Nov. 5 state championship in Jefferson City.

At Sioux Passage Park, Oct. 22 McCluer North took third place with Hazelwood West took fourth in Class Four, District three while IWA took third in girls.0 St. Louis University High Boys and Nerinx Hall girls won team district titles.

Nicholas Stewart led the McCluer North Stars by winning the boys individual title with a 17:24.1 effort while the leading West Wildcat was Anthony Riggs who finished 10th (18:12.9) Hazelwood Central’s Ryan Griffin, with a 30-place finish, will go to Section Two to compete as an individual.

Maddie Orf led IWA with a sixth-place finish wth 21:55.3 effort; 1:37.6 behind individual champion Sophia Racette, Nerinx Hall.  Hazelwood West will send tow gir5ls top Section Two, Erica Atnip (9th) and Miranda Kotraba (28th) to compete as individuals.

  BOY SWIMMERS AND DIVERS have until Nov. 5 to qualify for the Missouri State Championships that will be held Nov. 11-12 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. As of Oct. 23, two Hsazelwood Central divers, Clayton Janvria and B.J. McLaughlin and McCluer North 500-yard freestyle Nick Kuper, are the only ones to come so far to qualify for state, according to the direct athletes web site.
