The Alpha Players Announce 3-Show Season; Opens wth ‘South Pacific’

Celebrating their 53rd season of bringing outstanding theater performances to the North County community, The Alpha Players of Florissant have announced the 2011-2012 productions to be staged at the James J. Eagan Center Theater.

The classic South Pacific opens on Sept. 30, Oct. 1, 7, 8, 9. Set on an exotic island during World War II, two parallel love stories unfold but are thwarted by the dangers of prejudice and war.  Filled with delightful  Rodgers and Hammerstein music such as “Some Enchanted Evening” and “Bali Hai”

In early spring of 2012, get ready for a comedy full of big characters and big laughs!  You Can’t Take it With You, written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman will take to the stage on Mar. 16, 17, 23, 24, and 25.  You’ll meet the Sycamore family and enter their zany world where everyday activities include setting off fireworks—inside the house, collecting snakes, distributing Marxist flyers, and holding ballet lessons in the living room.   When their eldest daughter invites her fiance’s wealthy parents to dinner, the family promises to behave, but when the guest arrive on the wrong evening, all bets are off.

Alpha Players’ third production of the season will be God’s Favorite, by Neil Simon.  Coming to the stage on May 18, 19, 25, 26, and 27, 2012, God’s Favorite, Joe Benjamin, appears to have it all, but like a modern-day “Job’, Joe’s faith is put to the test by Sidney, “A Messenger from God” and compulsive film buff.  The jokes and “tests of faith” fly fast and furious as Neil Simon spins a contemporary morality tale.

The Alpha Players are always committed to offering affordable, family-friendly entertainment for metro-St. Louis theater lovers.  The best value is still the season ticket for $32/adult or $30/senior or student.  The season ticket provides select seating for 3 performances, an invitation to a special pre-season wine and appetizer party, and savings of 27% off individually priced tickets.Three shows and a party for just $32.
