NCCS Four-Peats MCSAA Girls Soccer; Lutheran North Wins Class 1, District 5

By Jim Wieners

North County Christian School, won their fourth consecutive Missouri Christian State Athletic Association girls soccer championship June 7 in Joplin, according to the school’s web site, “nccsedu.org.”

Final win-loss records were not available but NCCS won the title game over TRCAA rival Tower Grove Christian, 6-2 as Samauri Williams scored four goals including three in the second half that broke a 2-2 halftime tie. Emily Stephens added a first half penalty kick while Kelsey Workman added a second half goal.

The significance of the championship is that NCCS played the tournament short-handed, 10 players. With about 20 minutes into the second half of the title game the Crusaders were down to nine when Savannah Audrain was reported to collide with a Tower Grove player fell backward and bounced her head off the turf. Apparently she never lost consciousness but was not allowed to return after paramedics examined her.

The final four goals by NCCS occurred after the Audrain injury while playing two ladies short.

Meanwhile, Lutheran High School North played only one game in Class One, District Five Girls Soccer and the Crusaders won their second district title in three years. Lutheran North won the morning of May 14 in a whitewash of North Technical, 10-0, on a rain-soaked Vogelsmeier Field which was called with 12:04 left in the second half on a 10-goal rule.

The Crusaders scored seven in the first half including three in the final minute of the half and coasted from there ending the game by scoring the final two in a 2:13 span.

Lutheran North is scheduled to host the May 24 sectional against the winner of District Six, Principia or John F. Kennedy. That title game was to be played May 16 at Whitfield.
