Rain Delayed Finish Of Class 4, District 3 Track And Field; Sectionals Are May 21

Rain was the dominant feature May 14 and it forced the postponement of several field events in the Class Four, District Three Meet at McCluer High until May 16 including boys’ discus, high jump, pole vault and triple jump as well as girls’ pole vault, shot put and triple jump.

Here are the winners from the completed Class Four, District Three events that too place on May 14.

McCLUER NORTH — Five boys each won a Class Four, District Three event on May 14. The two boys field events that were completed on May 14 were won by McCluer North athletes; Melik Benton in the Long Jump and Deondre Cannady in the Shot put. Also winning are two in the hurdles including Aaron Mallet in the 110-Meter Highs and Freddie Crittendon in the 300-Meter Intermediates as well as a sprinter, Sean West in the 100-Meter Dash.

Three girls won districts for the Stars including Kendra White, 400-Meter Dash, Natalie Pattin, 800-Meter Run, and Alicia Shivers, Discus.

HAZELWOOD CENTRAL — The Hawks won two boys relay events, 4×100 Meters and 4×400 Meters, and qualified for sectionals in the 4×800 relay. Central, however, was disqualified in the boys 4×200-Meter relay because of a baton exchange that took place out of the exchange zone Individually Michael Hester won the 200- and 400-Meter Dashes.

HAZELWOOD EAST — The Spartans will compete in all four relay events in Sectional Two but won two events in District Three, 4×100 Meters and 4×200 Meters. Tianna Valentine won the 100- and 200-Meter Dashes.

ST. LOUIS UNIVERSITY HIGH dominated the boys distance category in District Three including a win in the 4×800-Meter Relay. Tim Rackers won the 1,600- and 3,200-Meter Runs while John Esswein won the 800-Meter Run.

McCLUER girls won the 4×400-Meter Relay while Sherise Williams won the Girls High Jump. HAZELWOOD WEST — Ausset Culberson won Girls 300-Meter Low Hurdles.

CLASS FOUR, DISTRICT TWO — Athletes from CBC, Chaminade, and DeSmet will send athletes to Sectional One, May 21 at Lafayette for to compete in state, May 27-28 in Jefferson City. CBC won the 4×100 and 4×200 Relays while Dominic Kacich won at 400 Meters. CHAMINADE Pole Vaulter Patrick Matteo won district. DeSMET had a winner in Brian Scherping, who won at 800 Meters.

CLASS THREE, DISTRICT THREE has its top four finishers from Lutheran North, McCluer South-Berkeley, North Tech and Trinity Catholic will compete in Sectional Two May 21 in Mexico, Mo.

McCLUER SOUTH BERKELEY won the Boys 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 Relays. LUTHERAN NORTH had a winner in Cletus Hatten, Jr., at 200 Meters

NORTH COUNTY CHRISTIAN, on May 7 in Joplin, won their first Boys MCSAA Missouri Christian State track title while the Girls won their second MCSAA title in a row, in their second year of existence. Both teams won 4×100-, 4×200- and 4×400-Mete Relays while the Girls also won the 4×800-Meter Relay.
