Hazelwood Police Chief Honored for 25 Years of Service to the City
Police Chief Carl Wolf was honored for 25 years of service to the city by Mayor Matt Robinson and the City Council at the last meeting
In recognition of an illustrious law enforcement career that has spanned over 40 years, Carl Wolf was honored recently for 25 years of service as the Chief of Police of Hazelwood, Mo., at a City Council meeting.
His creative ingenuity and superb leadership skills in developing numerous crime fighting programs, which have been emulated by police departments across the state and throughout the country, explains why Hazelwood continues to be on the cutting edge of the latest innovations.
In addition to being one of 18 police departments in the state of Missouri with International Accreditation status, the Hazelwood Police Department was one of only three around the world that received the 2010 “Excellence in Victim Services” Award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police. The department has also earned distinction for its efforts in creating the School Resource Officer and Volunteer in Police Service programs.
Chief Wolf began his law enforcement career as a police officer for Ladue in 1970. He attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a Master of Science degree in Urban Affairs and Policy Analysis with a specialty in Public Administration. He graduated from the Greater St. Louis Police Academy as well as the 28th session of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Program. Prior to his current position, he served as Chief of Police for the following two police departments in Illinois: Highland; and Dupo.
In 1994, Wolfe was named Missouri Police Chief of the Year. Six years later, he received the Missouri Police Chiefs Association’s Distinguished Service Award. Other leadership roles given to him include the following: serving as a Commissioner of the REJIS Commission; serving on the Board of Directors of the Major Case Squad; and being appointed as Chairman of the North County MEG unit and Chair of the Regional Computer Crime Education and Enforcement Group.
Currently, Chief Wolf is serving his third three-year term as the Vice President/Treasurer of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. This has given him an opportunity to travel the world and promote the City of Hazelwood, as well as his own police department.
“We thank Carl for his many years of dedicated service to our community,” said Mayor Matthew Robinson, City of Hazelwood. “I’ve been on the city council for 15 years and it’s been a pleasure working with him. His limitless resources and contacts in the International Association of Chiefs of Police have proven to be beneficial to making Hazelwood a safe place for our residents.”
Chief Wolf has a deep commitment to helping today’s young people become our country’s future leaders. He was recently honored by the St. Louis County Juvenile Justice Association (SLCJJA) with the 2010 Corrigan-Wiesman Partnership Award for his efforts in developing the Hazelwood Youth Leadership Academy. He also received a Missouri House of Representatives Resolution, which congratulated him for making a difference in the lives of local youth.
In his spare time, Chief Wolf plays an active role in the community. He has served as President of the Florissant Valley Kiwanis, President of the Emerson YMCA (twice), and a Board member of the Northwest Chamber of Commerce. He is currently the Chairman of Valley Industries’ Board of Directors and plays a key role in organizing the Mayors’ Shamrock Ball every year as a fund-raiser for this not-for-profit organization. In addition to receiving the North County Inc. Recognition Award for Service, he was chosen as the recipient of Northwest Chamber’s “Volunteer of the Year” Award in 2007.
Chief Wolf just married his new bride, Colleen, several months ago. Together, they have eight children and eight grandchildren.
Other Hazelwood Employees with Milestone Service Anniversaries
At the same City Council meeting, the following two Hazelwood employees were recognized for their many years of service:
Lt. Michael Brady started working as a patrol officer for the City of Hazelwood on February 10, 1986, and was honored for his 25 years of dedicated service. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant (Coordinator) in January 1998 and later promoted to his current rank of Lieutenant in January 2008. Brady serves as a Watch Commander during the afternoon shifts.
Capt. Gerard Hagedorn gained an interest in firefighting through his membership with Hazelwood’s Fire Explorer Post #9341. He began his career with the City on November 11, 2000, and recently celebrated his 10th year service anniversary. Hagedorn is a graduate of the St. Louis County Fire Academy and is a licensed paramedic. He has achieved certification as an Acting Captain and Level 2 Apparatus Driver/Operator. In addition, Hagedorn is a recipient of the City Life Saving Award and has received several letters of appreciation from his patients.
